As a general rule I dont like taking on less than $1.80 whether it's the football or greyhounds or anything else, however there have been times where I have seen the value in $1.60 and an occasion where I was as desperate as $1.50, but the question to all you Shortists out there is, what is the shortest price that you have taken.

As I said; $1.80 is generally my mark whether it is athletics, golf, cricket, football or anything else however there have been times where I have liked $1.60 although generally I will not take on $1.50.

How low does everyone go?

I've taken prices as low as $1.10 but only in a big assed silly parlay (one of those $20 pick the entire round deals).

I otherwise won't touch anything that's below around the $1.80 mark.

I have taken $1.00 before on the place of a horse called Pasta Post, last year. 5 or 6 minutes before the race place price drifted out to $1.80 which matched the win divvy, so put my money on him placing with a huge smile on my face along with the rest of the country it seems. Payout was $0.80 rounded up to $1.00. Great times!
Generally though, In horse racing I like win divvy's of $3.00 or more. If it is less I tend to put them in a double if I can.
In sport anything over $1.50 will do me.

I've gone as low as 1.42 in a multi bet in footy.

Usually I will try and pick a margin if the price gets too pathetic. Plenty of value for the under and over 39.5 points, on most occasions.

For horses it is usually odds on look on, but I have taken 1.80 (not on purpose) when a short priced one gets crunched in late.

yeah i reckon those parleys bite you on the toosh more often than not Laughing

$1.80 is generally my cut-off in soccer as in tennis as in anything. i reckon that if you're not getting four parts per five in return it aint worth it, however as i have indicated, i have taken $1.60 on a few occasions and lucky for me they've all been winners. the $1.70 and the $1.50 mark have fouled me on more than a few times strangely.

$1.80 is generally my mark Mr. Green Smile

Mate I have seen 1.02 pops get rolled in sporting contests.

Some guy put 200 000 on Australia to beat South Africa at 1.02 after the Aussies made well over 400 in that now famous one day game.

In any sporting contest (especially where one can punt on it), funny results can spring up.

that's why i reckon long term you dont want to make a habit out of getting less than four beans for every five invested Thumbs up

i'll take three beans on occasion but that doesn't mean that i like doing it.

my mate bonkerz that posts in the nba section from time to time put $3K on the Lakers to beat the Nuggets in the 1st round of the playoffs at $1.05 odds. This was when the Lakers were already up 3-0 in the best of 7 series though.
At the time I thought he was crazy but it won so he made 150 profit on it Bow Down

that lakers bet was very stupid if they were up 3 and 0...... Yes the lakers are a good team atm but kobe is arrogant as fuck and when you bet on playoff nba games you should realise that sometimes teams that are way ahead pretty much let a team win if they are behind in the last quarter.....eg papovich took his stars off in one of their games in the last round playoffs when he knew he was gonna smoke the series anyway. so just saying be careful betting on nba

cheers

My mate used to take shorts for place divi's, but in an all up mode...

On Midweek meets, he used to find the 4 favourites he thought would definately place... Whack $100 all up for the place:

1.20 x 1.50 x 1.30 x 1.40: 3.276 @ 100 times = $327.60

Surprising when he was selective at when he would punt he had a huge return, but of course he got greedy, and then starting placing bets all week, went too far and did his arse,

But successful early...

It's OK to Clap, NOT get the Clap!!!

I rarely take shorts, if it's less than even money I need to have a reason, and it better be a good one.

The one notable exception was when I unloaded on a Hobart race on a horse called Reunifacation (won again today actually, as it happens). It was running in a field of 3, it knuckled the start and still won at a canter at over 6 lengths, and I took it at $1.20.

I would never take anything that short again, but the field size did make it an easier decision.

Small field sizes don't always guarantee a winner in my opinion. We saw Lucky Secret get rolled on the weekend at $1.50.
