Bulldogs, Roosters trying to pinch next Inglis from Melbourne Storm

THE Storm are fighting to retain a teenager rated the best athlete at the club since Greg Inglis after an NRL rival tabled a $400,000 offer to poach the Melbourne rookie.
With Inglis tipped to join the Broncos next season, the Storm are trying to avert a double whammy as they attempt to secure boom outside back Justin O'Neill.
Plucked from the North Queensland town of Hughenden in 2006 for $500, O'Neill is in line for a bumper pay rise after becoming one of the code's most sought-after rookies.
Off contract at season's end, O'Neill was on the verge of signing a new deal with the Storm in April, only for talks to be put on hold when news of the salary cap rort surfaced.
Since then, O'Neill has burst on to the NRL stage, scoring five tries in four games.
The 19-year-old wants to be loyal to the Storm, but with the club under pressure they may struggle to match interest from a raft of rivals, including the Bulldogs and Roosters

if your car was destroyed...and these were...you'd go ballistic too...

on other fronts...there is talk Isaac Luke is going to play this afternoon...and Crocker is out again.... Banghead

and this little gem: Cameron Smith said he signed two contracts...both the same...

he missed all the extras in the second contract....a deal from fox sports for 100,000...with no obligation to do anything for it...a publishing deal for 50,000...a car for the wife and allowance to renovate his house....no real differences...

Warriors get their first back to back set of 6 in the 2nd half and score. Dave Taylor off with what looks to be a major shoulder/collarbone injury

Score - Souths 32 - 28

they think Taylor's shoulder might be broken...

Good win against a tough side...Sandow is finally showing some class last couple of games...but we shouldn't have had to nurse him early in season...was costly...we'll take the two pts and run...

Luke should be back next week...gonna need him with Taylor gone...

Banana cheers

Confirmed - Luke Patten will join English Superleague club Salford at seasons end

Sharkies are set to recieve some consolation after missing out on signing Michael Gordon and set to obtain the services of Penrith winger Brad Tighe

DESPITE being officially warned off by Melbourne, Parramatta suits are still making plenty of noise about poaching Cooper Cronk for next season.

We've heard Eels boss Paul Osborne has ignored the Storm's terse reminder to desist from negotiations with Cronk, who is contracted to Melbourne for another three years.

It's understood Osborne has continued talks with Cronk's management, who are no doubt captivated by the extra commission they could earn from the Eels' $500,000-a-year offer - a handsome hike from the halfback's current $350,000 salary.

IN OTHER signing news, Manly's Steve Matai is being chased by no fewer than four clubs. Off contract at the end of the year, the Kiwi Test centre has fielded interest from the Warriors, the Bulldogs, the Sharks and the Eels. With a rap sheet as long as the Sharks' premiership drought, the UK is not an option for the firebrand who would have little chance of securing a work visa.

Inglis is now on Rusty's wish list...
but Souths have little chance of snaring him as he hates Sydney...

Titans offer is now higher than Broncos and they think they'll get him...

His girlfriend is in Brisbane so they're using that as bait...

His parents are moving back to Macksville so that's central to all three...

Russel is an idiot and Inglis would be an idiot to fall for whatever bullshit he spins. The lure of playing with Lockyer, Thaiday and Hodges will be all that is needed for the Broncos to seal the deal whenever that may be.... its dragging on now. Falou and Hunt will beack after next season as well

NORTH Queensland and former State of Origin winger Ty Williams will quit the NRL at the end of the season proud of everything he has achieved in football.
The 29-year-old Innisfail product has spent his entire NRL career at the Cowboys but announced yesterday his eighth season at the club would be his last.
He aims to continue to play in the Queensland Cup for the Northern Pride.
"I’ve been thinking about it for the past few months and over the last couple of days and feel the time is right to knock my NRL career on the head," Williams said.
"I’m turning 30, that was one thing to consider, and there are a few blokes moving on at the end of the year from the club like Webby (Carl Webb) and OD (Luke O’Donnell) who I’m close with and I’ve played a lot of footy with.
"I also wanted to go out on my own terms and not because of an injury.
"It (the body) is going all right. You have good and bad days and the time I’ve had off with injuries has probably refreshed me a bit.
"But when you get injuries at this age it’s harder to come back."
Williams also cited a desire to spend more time with his family.
"They’ve always supported me with my rugby league and now it’s time for me to give something back to them," Williams said.
An Innisfail Brothers junior, Williams made his debut for the Cowboys against the Warriors in Round 4, 2002, and has so far played 145 games for the club.
He played all three games of the 2005 Origin series for Queensland and scored on debut in the Maroons’ 24-20 victory in Game 1.
But Williams has also suffered lows during his career, with a series of serious leg injuries, including a broken leg and knee reconstruction, blighting his time in first grade.
While his Origin experience is dear to his heart, Williams said the Cowboys’ first appearance in an NRL finals series in 2004 was one of his proudest football moments. "That is a big thing that stands out for me," he said.
"Those 17 blokes made history for North Queensland on that day.
"I was happy just to be given an opportunity when I first came up here. My goal was just to play one game but to have the opportunity to play more than 100 and spend eight years at the club has been fantastic."
Williams has been a regular member of the Northern Pride side the past two seasons and plans to continue playing in the Queensland Cup after this year. But he also hopes he can mentor the region’s emerging talent in some capacity.
"I’d like to do some work in that area to give back some of what rugby league has given me," he said.
Cowboys CEO Peter Parr said Williams was a cherished member of the Cowboys organisation.
"I don’t think God has put breath into too many better blokes," he said.

Rumour down in Sydney is that Berrick Barnes will return to league in 2012 and will possibly try his luck again at the Broncos

Could he be the answer to Brisbane needing a five-eighth when Locky retires?

James Aubussen might be heading to Dragons...

Carl Webb mentioned in Eels discussions...isn't everyone?

under-20s star Lama Tasi has been poached from Sea Eagles by Chooks...supposed to be very good back-rower...

and this, from yesterday:

Quote:
Luck injury looked like 'shark attack'

By Will Swanton From: The Sunday Telegraph August 22,

NEW Zealand Warriors lock Micheal Luck last night suffered one of the most gruesome injuries seen in the NRL.

Warriors players recoiled in horror and captain Simon Mannering feared he would vomit when he saw the 18cm gash above Luck's knee.

It was so deep the muscle was clearly visible to anyone unfortunate enough to see it.

It's unthinkable that Luck, whose leg was slashed by the studs on Manly star Anthony Watmough's boots, will recover in time to play Brisbane in Auckland on Friday night.

Warriors medical staff covered Luck's leg for fear the sight of it would horrify television viewers as much as it repulsed Mannering.

They refused to allow the pictures, taken on the mobile telephones of medical staff, to be printed in this newspaper because it was too ugly.

"I saw it and went 'holy crap', I've never seen anything like that on a footy field," Mannering said.

"Watmough's boot just sliced through his leg. The skin was just ripped off and you could see down to his muscle, all this pink flesh kind of hanging out, it was bloody horrible.

"I ran straight up to the ref and said you've got to stop play.

"Blood was everywhere. He's such a tough bugger, he wanted to keep playing, but there was no way. We were all running around, pointing at him, going look at that.

"I was so queasy I couldn't look. It looked like he'd been bitten by a shark."

Sea Eagles captain Jamie Lyon saw it and told field-goal hero Trent Hodkinson it wasn't suitable for his innocent eyes.

Other players, from both sides, looked like they wanted to run for the hills.

Luck wasn't howling in agony. Instead, he was eerily quiet. Like he was in shock.

Parking at the back of Brookvale is nightmarishly tight at the best of times and when the ambulance finally made its 15-point turn, Luck was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital.

"I didn't see it myself but Killer [Lyon] did," Hodkinson said. "He just kind of spun around and said 'Whoa!' and told me to look the other way.

"It sounded pretty full-on, the Warriors blokes were freaking out."

Warriors officials and players were lining up to see the photographs in the dressing room. They were adamant the pictures were too nauseating to be viewed by the public.

The Kiwis were also keeping under wraps the reason for the majority of them, Mannering included, boasting beards bushy enough to do Ned Kelly proud.

"Aw, um I can't speak for the other guys," Mannering said.

But you're the captain. You're supposed to speak for the other guys.

"I've just got a beard because, well, I've just got a beard."

So it's a mere coincidence it looks like none of you have shaved since the Warriors entered the competition in 1995?

"Yeah, maybe," Mannering grinned. He then shuffled off to take a squiz at the photo of Luck's leg. He looked ready to bring up his lunch all over again.

seems like Luck was the only one not a woose...
he couldn't possibly back up next week...infection a possibility...
