I am ashamed to say I got swindled out of $1000 this afternoon.. I was filling petrol in my car and these two guys in a white van next to me asked me if I wanted to buy a 3D projector. They were wearing those shiny yellow vests and had a delivery clipboard and said the factory made some mistake and gave them an extra system and it was valued at over $5k for the set and said he didn't want it but I could have it for $800. He showed me the box had something showing an rrp of like $3499 and stupidly I didn't stop to question his story an thought it was a bargain. He then offered me this speaker set as well for an extra few hundred. I went online when I got home and searched google for this brand and came across several sites with people talking about the scam. My wife was already pissed at me for buying it without discussing with her first, fuck she is gonna give me the silent treatment badly when she finds out what happened.. Normally I am not such a retard but these two dudes were very convincing, and I am embarrassed that I got duped by it but if this info saves one of u guys from the same fate then it's worth it to put this thread out there.. Still can't believe I fell for it.. Fuck

they say it's an LED 3D projector, and give u the screen, mounts for ceIling etc, full HD, all that crap.
These guys are really organized and have their story down. I guess it's an expensive life lesson not to be too trusting of strangers. The guy smiled and even shook my hand afterwards. What a shit day.

let me guess. at first its pppsssssst wanna buy a brand new still in the box 3d projector, they have accidentily loaded one extra onto the van, and fuck their boss. then in the back of their van they show you one out of the box. you agree and as they are boxing it up again you are distracted for a split second as they switch boxes, you watch him bag the box, they are all smiles and away. you open the box for a sneaky peak, and your fucking delighted with yourself, until you see youve paid a grand for 2 or 3 telephone directories. am i close. Its an old scam thumbboy, usually done with expensive one off items. you were lucky really as theres usually 2 or 3 of them and only one of you. if you rumble them they will give you a kicking and move on.. to my eternal shame i used to love the con in my youth. not that those kind of cons would work on the island for long it to tiny. i had no qualms selling couterfit goods to tourists tho. until my shop was impounded by weights and measures. they sent in someone to buy the products. i was shrewd i only ever keep a few items in the shop, on that occassion it was fake reebok shell siuts. they only got one other out of the shop and the 2 they paid by cheque for £96, i cashed their cheque along with my takings and would have just played dumb had they objected, never heard another word from them, i told them i bought 6 pieces from a street vendor who came in my shop with them, and they looked real to me mr honest etc etc etc, i only bought them to add colour to my window display etc etc. truth is i paid 800 cash for 100 items in the airport car park in liverpool, and got straight back on the plane with them. i thought for sure the shit would hit the fan if the mistress from king williams college ever cottened on as i had sold hee a batch of 40, which i generously discounted down to 39.99 from 47.99.{i thought it fucking hilarious at the time, 40 of these rich kids strutting around in their fake rebooks} £40 mark up per item was just too tempting, and i only got rumbled right at the end. i played dumb when asked for previous sales details whether it was cheque etc, and claimed they were cash sales on the other 3 siuts i admitted to selling. i got a mild ear bashing about buying stock from unverifiable sources etc etc. it was the guy from inter-sports down the street who reported me as it tuned out he told them i was selling cheaper than he could buy, they were good fakes mind as he thought they must be knock off for me to be selling so cheap. then there were the fake frank thomas aqua packs 1 TT fortnight, made a killing on them and i had a guy who worked for duke marketing running the video banks, he would bring in 200 of his own blank tapes and run them thru, and he charged me £4,00 a video. 3 years in a row i sold 200 during tt week. then the shit hit the fan, the guy who worked for them got sacked, as legally there wasnt much they could do, as only the cardboard inlay was the only thing stolen by him. me, i just showed them a reciept for a video rental for the fortnight and said some guy came in and offered me a dozen different tapes, so i bought them of him and just had them playing in my window display to attract the punters to view my TT T shirt colloction, and at the end of the week i put a for sale price on the vids of 9.99 just to get rid of them. whereas i had a bootful sitting in my car outside at the beginning of tt fortnight, and just kept replacing any that were bought out of the window display. i always had a great blag sorted before i started. anyway happy days, but just memories now. .

Nope it's not phonebooks there's an actual projector in there but it's rubbish one from China worth practically nothing. At the time I was thinking to myself wow, lucky to be in the right place at the right time, now it's kinda the opposite. Fake reeboks isn't that bad at least if they do the same thing and look the same as the originals. This scam I read that they have it in new Zealand as well so it's not just happening in Sydney.

when did you realise you had been conned and they had pulled a switch on you. how long. and did you look around for them in any other district. these kind of scams only really work on the young, did you have the cash on the hip at the time, or did they wait for you to go and get it. .

Feel for ya man. Nearly happened to me a month or so ago. said they were up from Sydney to install massive home entertainment systems for display homes in the area. In which the area is booming in regards to growth etc. Said they went they had 2 installs left and when they got there they found out the builder had gone bust. their boss told them to sell em off as they had come this far and was so pissed off, they open the van door all these boxes, prices still on them, warranty slips the whole lot. They said both systems are valued at $30,000 and they would sell for 10,000. I said fuck no i anit got 10,000, they went down to 5g to 1g. I kept saying nah not interested, they got really aggressive, then my mates turned up as it was outside the pub. And one f my mates says "yeah ill take one, ill just get some cash out" we went inside and never went out. You dodgy bastard Lay Low

Ugh that's brutal. I guess the old saying is fitting, "If it sounds too good to be true..."
We've all had our fair share of embarrassing getting conned moments though. I once gave a guy $500 to buy a "place" in a petrol enhancing product pyramid. I was convinced that I'd make an easy 2-3k out of it.

the beauty about buying and selling on a island benny, is the locals have to pay full RRP on everything they buy, until sales time. so it was irrelevant to the sale price what the purchase price was, as once the stock was here, it was worth what it was worth. for instance levi 501s. i could buy them for £10 a pair, i used to go to joe bloggs main warehouse in manchester, and out the back there were great big bins of boutique returns, i would trawl thru those bins and find jeans that were just end of lines etc, still in their bags. bring them back home and i could sell them all day long for £40 a pair, as the were 50 and 60 pound rrp items. hardly any stock was dodgey, just well sourced and hand picked. .

here is some consolation thumbboy. Has anyone heard about the 2 speaker scammers from Melbourne that were found tied up naked in the middle of a supermarket parking lot with 2 of their shoddy tweeters shoved up their asses? Surprised it hasn't made the news yet. anyone here hear about them. read this lot. http://www.scamshield.co...Australia&article=1
all of them thought they were buying knock off gear, and ripping some company off. turns out it was them getting ripped off, but they just dont see the irony. they were prepared to grasp with both hands what they believed to be stolen goods on the cheap, not giving a second thought for the person who was alledgedly being stolen from. .

I drove past later but no sign of them. Yeah they said they were given too many for their delivery, I didn't really think of it at the time but yeah if their story was true somebody somewhere would have had to be losing out for them to be so cheap if they were really worth that much. So yeah maybe it is karma.. One day later and still feeling sick at myself over this one. It's a mistake I will never make again though. Ugh.. Expensive lesson to learn though.

no you wouldnt of seen them later, theyed be in the pub, theyed just had a $1000 touch. you will laugh about it alot over your whole life thumbboy. your mates will never forget. and your missus wont hold it over you forever, just every time you argue over money for the next 10 years, after that inflation has weakened her arguement to much. .

I still haven't set mine up yet, I heard from someone else that bought one that it worked pretty well, but I also read online that they are a fire hazard so big warning - if you use the thing, make sure you dont leave it on unattended or turned on overnight or anything like that. The other thing I read is that the contact details in the manual, it's like a ghost address so there's no way to contact them about repairs or replacement parts. They basically said that once it breaks down it's an expensive paperweight Sux that this thing is still going around, I thought these dudes in the van would have been stabbed already by an angry customer by now Good to know the surround system works well though so it's not a total loss Let me know how u go with it tho, hopefully there's a way for u to get it working again..

Hi, happened to me last April too but in Miami Florida. same strategy that they have an extra and would like to get rid of it. bought it for 600$ right after drawing money from the bank to send it to my sons enrollment. I got the speaker and the 100" screen as well. I haven,t installed it yet coz I am too busy and thought of even selling it today for even better prize of 4,000 euro's in France till I saw this blogs. I cannot believe that this scam is happening maybe around the world already.. now I do not even think I can sell it just to get my money back. shamed, but maybe will try to connect and see if that speaker also works... and screen would be nice if I can use it for playstation.. cheers guys

yeah this things seems to be happening everywhere.. there's a few of these global scams, I am actually surprised it's still going on and that they haven't caught the ppl behind it yet. yeah I was considering selling mine too for a while just for a few hundred but couldn't be bothered, will just use it for a while until it breaks down and then get rid of it.

Hi 121Sports members,
Just signed up to make this post...
Was filling my car up this afternoon at a Caltex on the way home at West Gosford on the Central Coast of NSW and these 2 wog/lebanese lads pull up in a white van telling me they are over stocked by the "dopey asian warehouse guy" on a 75" screen and projector. I said yeah for sure I'll take a look... They drove around the side of the servo where their open van door couldn't be seen (first thing that set off warning bells, they drove outa sight) and I finished my fuel business and headed over to them... They claimed they had a projector and screen valued at over $5,000 even showed me RRP on box/es and ads in a magazine (the magazine also looked rather dodgey, warning bell #2)... At first they wanted $2000, then $1500, then $1000, then $800, then $600, then $500 (warning bell #3) - I even asked them why they were so keen to get rid of it and their answer was "we just want some money for piss tonight - if we take it back our boss will keep it just like he did last time with a $1200 microwave we got over-stocked on once so we wanna make some quick cash for the night ya know"... They were very convincing and they shook my hand to begin with, introduced themselves as Lance and Dominic and even offered their mobile number, plates and registration details as a guarantee of the item quality or in case of any issues with it... So I wound up turning the offer down because my impression of the gear was "cheap chinese rip offs" and "Lance" couldn't keep this odd smirk off his face that made me uneasy. Oh and of course the rate of the price drop and the over-keen attitude to pass off the goods. I couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss here.
As I left I was pondering on whether or not I had made a mistake... I regretted my decision not to buy their items because I thought I could even make a profit by selling them on eBay at 1/2-1/4 of the RRP on the box... But a quick google led me here and to other pages that have described this exact incident as a scam. I sure am glad I turned them down and am not $500 less.
Just to let everyone know even though this thread is at least a couple of months old this SCAM IS STILL HAPPENING AND TO BE AWARE!
Cheers, DKNZ.

hey DKNZ Welcome! and good job spotting the scam and keeping ur money!! I still after all this time haven't used mine.. if anything it was a valuable life lesson that anything too good to be true, probably is.. Sounds like it could be the same guys that sold em to me, the whole thing sounds very similar to how it went down with me. I won several $K betting online a few mths after it happened though so it more than made up for the loss, still kinda pissed off at myself for falling for it though.. Thanks for taking the time to sign up and post about it though, I was just wondering the other day if those guys may have been caught by the police, or stabbed after ripping off one person too many, but I guess not lol
