Collingwood v Geelong

MCG, Sat Oct 1 ... 2pm.

**********************

The rookie coach, Chris Scott in his 1st year at Geelong which has played in 3 of the last 4 grand finals with 2 flags v the 20 year veteran, Mick Malthouse going for back-2-back flags at the Pies in his last game as head coach.

Which midfield will better feed the in-form forwards in Cloke/Dawes and Pods/Hawkins.

Injury clouds hang over Pies Jolly and Reid and Geelong's Stevie J. Will Pods be sighted by the MRP? Will Collingwood drop Beams and bring in Fasolo? Can they afford Didak as sub?

Geelong are the form team of the finals easily accounting for Hawks and West Coast after a belting of Pies in the last round by 96 points. They are the only team to beat the Pies this year in both enocunters.

Pies were the dominant team of 2011 but have struggled in the finals but a great last quarer comeback against the Hawks will have them primed and confident they can win this week. Cloke is the key to a big score by the Pies but I feel they need Fasolo and Didak to both play and chip in for goals, too.

Cats have a complete team and have added to their armory with Hawkins , Varcoe and Christensen stepping up in the past month.

Both teams are evenly matched with a good midfield, tight running defenders, key forwards. Cloke and Swan could be the difference if the Cats cant hold them.

I am tipping the Pies in a close game ... (hopefully Kev's kiss of death Chuckle )

Cats will win by 20+ points. Pies best this year has past and Cats are getting better. Think a Pie will win the Norm Smith though.

Hard to see Pies getting up in this one, Geelong in ominous form and have had the pies measure the last couple of times they have played. Plus going on finals form Geelong have been a lot more impressive.

Think Geelong by 4goals +
One of Bartel/Chapman/Kelly for norm smith, leaning towards Chapman if he gets a couple of goals.

First Goal scorer.... Hawkins or Cloke

I'm head and heart cats. I think the only thing that can stop it is bad accuracy. Cats kick straight and they'll kick away from the pies. Bartel - normie.

fact - Cats have never lost a game in october!

Geelong should win, but let's face it, everthing has gone right for pies this year so anything could happen.

I'll be on luke ball & james kelly for norm smith.

Heard the weather is likely to be bad. So Jvalles pick of Luke ball might be accurate. I think Bartel still for normie.

I see your taking the point of view that it's a mismatch jujuno, i think it's pretty even.. I think it's going to be a 10 point game. I think the weather will help the cats, but both teams have large forward lines.

Pies will probably come home strong, so cats need a trademark 6 - 8 goal blitz in the 2nd or 3rd to stay in it.

I'm just being a realist..

most of the year Pies were playing 3/4 football but the three quarters they were playing were good enough to win..

Geelong exposed that weakness in r9 clash...

by the end of the year with injuries and Daisy's suspension we were barely playing two good quarters...

I think the result hinges on how the Pies play. Cats have played very solid 4/4 football and I find it hard to believe they lost the games they did.

If my boys play to their best then yes it will be close...and they can win...

but I have only seen their best about three times this year..

Will live and die with them regardless...

ps. have been wearing my Pies scarf around Sydney all week and been accosted by masses of Geelong fans...have driven my daughter nuts because I stop and talk to them and sometimes the conversations go on for half-hour or more...lots of Hawks fans as well, but they don't want to talk...Chuckle

i no its doesnt depend on how the pies play

it depends how both teams play

the way gfs go its the team who plays best on the day wins doesnt matter where u finish on the ladder

thats basic knowledge juju

if both team play there best which never happens cats will win

norm smith is a raffle almost as bad as the brownlow

Pies on the under 10.5 in a cracker GF. Respect to Dayne Beams for doing what IS commonly now known as the Presti. Wouldnt have been an easy decision to make. Very unselfish Thumbs up

Got my bets on for the GF
Pies FTW under 10.5
Cloke or JPod for the first goal kicker
Bartel, Chapman and Ball for N.S.M

If its really wet, then Bartel looks good. Since I got on Ball at $31, his odds have come right down to $19 last i checked. Dawes for most goals. Blair and Krakeur first goal.

If it rains you have to go for Geelong.

I much prefer a wet pussy to a soggy pie.

sometimes, smiddy, I wonder if you're drunk when reading my posts...

I said it will be close if the Pies play to their best...I expect Geelong to play four solid quarters...never referred to where they finished on the table..it has no relevance...

I am in a sportsbet contest for $10,000 picking Pies by ten points, Andrew Mackie for first goal, Andrew Krackouer for Norm Smith and combined scores of between 150-160pts...went mad...

They're a superb team. Defence like a rock and non-stop midfield.

plus the new star of the team, young Tomahawk.

If we had to be beaten it was no shame to lose to that team...

congratulations Cats...

great effort for three-quarters Pies...hard for Mick..

but now for a new era with Bucks..

Congratulations to the Cats and Chris Scott. They deserved to be the best team of the season but tbh I never that big a margin happening. Thought Cats were shot when the JPod went down but in the end it turned out be an infuental point in the game. Hawkins was thrust into the sole key forward role and did it very well. Must have gotten close in the NS Medal voting

Got my 42.50 from Bartel winning it Smile He was just a gun today and the NS medal win is even sweeter still for me. His odds were 8.50 on Thursday when i bought the ticket and had shortened into 7.00 at bounce down today Thumbs up

Was shattered for Mick. I got no idea how he reacted behind closed doors but he was more composed that i expected after the game. Not so shattered for sour puss mcguire. The boos and hollering that went around when was on the telly were priceless
