This morning CD and I had a discussion over the dismissal of Nick Diaz from the main event for UFC 137. Diaz put a cunty show on by missing flights to press conferences... which he was contractually bound by, and wasted a ton of time. White removed him from the title bout and inserted Carlos Condit, a worth opponent for GSP. This move left BJ Penn without an opponent... until now. As of less than an hour ago, Dana White announced that BJ Penn will be fighting Nick Diaz on the undercard. I personally think that this switch will be beneficial as I think Condit is a better match up for GSP and Diaz is a better match up for Penn. Should be interesting! Any thoughts? http://www.5thround.com/...137-st-pierre-vs-condit/

Lots of posturing going on already. GSP is saying that Condit is a harder fight. Diaz is saying that BJ is a harder fight.
People are wondering whether Diaz will trash BJ, as they have been training partners and always shown respect to each other. I think Uncle Dana is up to something, he is a smart guy and BJ is a company man. I am betting that he has been in BJ's ear "You gotta hype this fight, talk some shit, make him flip out". I am expecting a crazy fight and lead-up. I hope they make this 5 rounds.
Penn by unanimous decision. Diaz's face will look like a hamburger.

Penn by unanimous decision. Diaz's face will look like a hamburger. I agree with smiddy, if Penn loses, he's finished... but it will be his retiring on his own. No way Dana White wants to lose Penn right now. Welterweight is not Penn's natural fighting weight, 155 is, and though he lost twice to Frankie Edgar, I think Edgar is just his kryptonite. Nick Diaz is not a slouch, and Penn losing to him is not a career ender, however in Penn's mind it just may be. Diaz's reach will be a big factor in this fight. If he can keep BJ away, and continuously pepper him with jabs and straight rights, it will be a long night for BJ. But Penn's striking is some of the best in MMA, and his BJJ is at or near the top as well. Working with wrestlers like Matt Hughes makes a HUGE difference. I think Hughes will help Penn with a proper game plan and hopefully right the ship with his career. I do see a lot of posturing too, definitely. Penn and Diaz are friends, but I think Dana will expect Penn to start crazy shit. I honestly prefer to see this fight over the GSP/Condit fight as I know for sure Penn and Diaz will go at it. GSP might fight to eke out a win... not cool in my book, but if Condit can put on the pressure, it could be a great fight.

And while Diaz admits he should have been at the press conferences – and certainly would have had he realized the consequences – he also blames St-Pierre for not protesting the switch. "I really don't appreciate this mother[expletive] sitting there at that press conference and laughing at me," Diaz said. "That's some real bitch [expletive]. He's sitting there laughing like it's funny or something. If I saw Georges on the street and called him a bitch, I bet you he wouldn't do [expletive]. I bet you if I walked up and gave him a slap, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't do [expletive]. But you can't do that to me. That's not how it works for me. That's something to fight about. "It makes me mad that Georges is going to sit there and call himself a fighter, but he's not going to stand up and say something about this. He's going to let it ride. I think I would say something. I would at least have said, 'I disagree. I don't agree with canceling my fight because of some dumbass [expletive].' Instead, he sat there and said, 'He doesn't have the commitment to be a champion.' What is that? I obviously have the commitment to throw my life away. I've thrown my life away and sacrificed everything so that I can fight. I did that. I threw my life away so I could work hard and train and fight. That's commitment."

Loving Nick Diaz. His stupidity is hilarious. Da boy can fight though and since he hasnt lost in 3 years, he is bigger and he will be on a warpath after this crazy fiasco, i will back him at odds against to get it done... Don't hate, appreciate...

How much will this effect the fighters? U would think they have been training the last few months to fight a certain person, style etc. Reckon it could effect their tactics and game plan much. Even though it effects them both evenly, much of a head fuck for them? Didak Attack

It shouldn't be a problem for these guys. They have enough time to make the adjustments.
The situation is worse for GSP as Condit is a far more dangerous fighter than Diaz (he's just not as interesting for the fans, doesn't threaten to bash people in the streets and stuff). GSP is still the heavy favourite but he's no longer unbackable.
Diaz is now only a slight $2.30 underdog to beat an over the hill BJ Penn. What's worse is that BJ has come out and basically tried to side with Diaz through the media. If BJ can't extract his head from Diaz's ass and get it into the game, this should be an easy win for the kid from Stockton.

St. Pierre vs. Condit - Match Odds Penn vs. Diaz - Match OddsI reckon Diaz has been impressive in the last few fights I've seen him in, so I'm thinking of putting a small (just something to help me cheer this fight on) bet down on him

GSP v Condit fight has been postponed due to GSP having a sprained knee which will put him out of commission for 4-6 weeks. What a bummer man. I was really looking forward to that fight!

This has gone from a good card to something pretty average Im looking forward to the Kongo v Mitrione fight, and the Penn v Diaz fight but can't see a whole lot of interest beyond those two? The Facebook fights are shown on FB, they are like streams, you need to be a 'friend' of the UFC. The whole point of it was to market the UFC bla bla but the good news is they are ditching these fights when the FOX deal starts in a couple of weeks time.
The only fight I might be interested in is the Vera fight. His first appearance since getting jailraped and drum-beaten by that steroid cheating rat bastard.

I'm changing my pick for the Diaz v Penn fight now that I've learnt a little about Penn's training camp. He never looks great at 170lbs but he is very soft this time, perhaps the worst ever. He is surrounded by the usual bunch of yes-men and surfer dudes and I've no doubt he'll get worked over by Diaz.

Pretty good card overall. Hioki with a dodgy decision. Mitrione beaten by the experience of Kongo, was frustrated into making some bad mistakes at the end. Diaz did what any sane person would have expected and put the underprepared Penn into retirement. I just hope he stays true to his word. Still I think GSP will handle Diaz easily. If a fat undersized Penn can take him down, imagine what GSP will do.
