1st test (again only a 2 test series!!!!) is coming up at 'The Gabba' next week beginning on Dec 1st. (2nd test is Hobart Dec 9-13)

After the highs and lows of South Africa and only 2 tests over there, we have 5 players who are likely to be out injued ... Shane Watson, Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris and Pat Cummins.

Basically we need a whole new fast bowling atack to go with Siddle! I would expect Copeland to play but who else?

With Watson and Marsh injured, Ponting will stay in (I think he was going to anyway) but we need another batsman/opener... Hussey moving up and a newbie at #5 or 6?

edit-Dave Warner is in the mix but with Hughes and Warner ... not solid enough (where's Katich now?)

It will give Kawaja a chance to consolidate at #3!

The 12 has been named ... and no Copeland! (he went to Saf - didnt play while others were here playing in in Shield games... crazy?)

Clarke ©, Haddin (vc), Cutting, P Hughes, M Hussey, Khawaja, Lyon, Pattinson, Ponting, Siddle, Starc, Warner

Starc probably 12th man.

We will soon find out how good the depth of the Sheffield Shield comp is.

Team needs Katich in it. Get over your pride Michael Clarke and give him another go

WARNER - should be replaced by Katich
HUGHES - hopefully gone when Watson returns
KHAWAJA - under pressure when Marsh is back
CLARKE - SAFE
PONTING - T.B.A
HUSSEY - SAFE
HADDIN - T.B.A. who replaces him but?
CUTTING - Gets a chance on his home deck. I like him personally
SIDDLE - Will lead the attack. Big pressure on him
LYON - Hasnt done anything wrong. Stick with him please
STARC - Like for like replacement for Johnson in that his a left armer with pace

PATTINSON - 12TH MAN

Wade is firming for the role to replace Haddin, Paine needs to get some games under the belt.

Can't believe Warner is getting a Test match cap, if you said that a year or two ago, you would have been committed.

Nobody is really knocking the door down to replace the older guys as yet, which is why they are still there despite ordinary form.

Looking forward to seeing this new attack. A few tests against NZ is certainly better than making a debut against England or India.

Let's see what they are made of.

Cant fault Wade's batting in 2011 and his played a few 20/20 matches for Australia but i think the selectors are still concerned with his glove work. Keeping to Warne in the Big Bash will be a nice test for him

From the team that played tests a year ago only Ponting, Clarke, Haddin, Hussey and Siddle remain! Injuries, the 'spin' bowler rotating door and Kato's forced retirement are the reasons not a changing of the guard! These changes will ensure that Haddin, Hussey and Ponting remain this summer otherwise it will be a complete new team.

BTW, Copeland who should be playing today has just taken 5 wickets in the latest shield game!

yep - Haddin's glovework has been sloppy here.

Clarke dropped a dolly at first slip when NZ were 5/96 off Vettori, who has gone on to 96! Aussies could've had the Kiwis all gone for less than 150 but now seems likely they'll push push towards 300. Warner fielded well at gully/point.

Our new pace attack, despite all the glow in the press has not shone for me - Starc is just Johnson MarkII - he got wickets with wide balls and the batsman slashing. Sidddle has looked ok - Pattinson - meh ... just too expensive. Lyon is showing that he could stick around and Clarke has faith in him, too.

Aussies built a lead of 120 ... Haddin and Punter saved their immediate careers with 80 and 78 (Punter with some vintage drives) and backed up Clarke's 139 and Starc (who not only bowls but bats like Johnson) and Pattinson made sure the tail wagged.

IF Kiwis can get a lead of 200+ they are a chance but I think it will be a draw. Neither teams bowling line-up is likely to get quick wickets.

... dont listen to me Chuckle

Pattinson runs thru the top order ... 3 wicket maiden in his 2nd over open and at one stage was 7O/5M/7R/5W AND NZ were 5/28 ... Batting better now but you think Aussies have this now?

NZ all out 150! Aussies lose Hughes in chasing 19! Too easy!

12th man Cutting is injured so Dan Christian on standby for Hobart!

Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel (NSP) picked the squad of twelve for the second Vodafone Test vs New Zealand in Hobart, which begins on Friday 9 December.

The Australian squad is:

Michael Clarke (captain)
Brad Haddin (vice-captain)
Dan Christian
Phil Hughes
Mike Hussey
Usman Khawaja
Nathan Lyon
James Pattinson
Ricky Ponting
Peter Siddle
Mitchell Starc
David Warner

Commenting on the squad, National Selector John Inverarity said: “The National Selection Panel has decided to replace the injured Ben Cutting with Daniel Christian in the twelve for the Second Test, which begins in Hobart this Friday.

It is disappointing for Ben that he will be sidelined for some weeks with a side strain, but this provides an opportunity for Daniel who has been performing well as an all-rounder for South Australia.

The balance of a team is always enhanced by the presence of an energetic all-rounder who is in good form.

more at ... http://www.cricket.com.a...y/2nd...uad-named/26270

**************

Are we going to go back to past selection policies of 'lets get an allrounder in just for the sake of it'??? ... Dan's batting has been good but other than in T20/One-dayers his bowling has not been so good of late.

Watson, Marsh not considered but should be fit for Boxing Day vs India ... be interesting if they come back in. Harris seems to be some time away from playing tho', Cummins has a stress injury of his foot and could miss the whole summer and Mitch Johnson is out for 5 months following his foot surgery.

Dan Vettori is a late withdrawl for NZ, paceman Bolt debuts as a replacement, Aust unchanged with Christian 12th man.

Aust win toss and will bowl on a very green looking pitch!

same as ...

NZ collapses 6/60 ... then 150.

Aust 1/12 ... Hughes caught slashing in Gully after an edge for 4 ... hahahaha! Rejected Screwy scratch Chuckle Dunno Bye Banghead Can kick

There was a young batsman named Hughes,
what to leave he did struggle to choose.
Now he's in a deep trough, playing well outside off,
and I think that his test spot he'll lose

Siddle and Pattinson put on 51 to get Aust closer - they made the top order look inept ... just played each ball on merit and now with 136 the Aussies have set the game up for an even match.

Aust need 241 to win.

Hughes could have been out caught off gloves for 0 but not out and no referral. He went on to 20 and a 72 partnership with Warner who looks good ... at stumps day 3.

Today and Hughes out early for 20 ... once again caught Guptill b Martin for the 4th time.

from Kerry O"Keefe on ABC ....

"If Phil Hughes is shaving tomorrow and he gets a nick, Martin Guptill will appear from the medicine cabinet"

If Watson or Marsh fit for Boxing Day, Hughes could go - he just cant stop those edges! flag

woah!

Aussies collapse 2/159 to 9/199 ... Warner has more than half ( a well deserved ton but could be for nout as Huss, Haddin, Punter and Clarke fail)

... 42 needed ... Warner might need to play a T20 knock Guitar Head

2 reviews ... one each team, overturned - what a match!

wow ... 123no Warner - 7 runs short. Well played Lyon. Warner maybe needed to farm the strike a little more at the end but you cant fault him - others with more experience failed earlier today and in the 1st innings!

NZ and Bracewell 6fer Easy

That is one nail biting win and one nail biting loss in the last 3 tests. Although the Aussies are not the dominant side they once were, we are seeing some great close matches.
