Diaz vs. Condit - Match Odds

All the money has come for Diaz, pushing him in from slight underdog to now clear favourite.

This one has me a bit puzzled. Early on, Diaz will walk in like a zombie and eat a few punches from Condit. The question is, will one of these punches put him to sleep? He was knocked down twice by Paul Daley who has similar/more power than Condit but then recovered and pitter pattered his way to victory. Will the same happen with Condit? I'm really not sure. It's worth keeping in mind that Condit will do a much better job of finishing off Diaz if he hurts him than Daley did (actually Daley was pathetic, just tried to kick him a couple times when he was barely conscious, allowing him to recover).

My head says Condit, heart Diaz.... I'll go with Condit by TKO/ground-and-pound but won't be putting cheddar on this. scratch

Where are the other odds?

Condit has the length to beat Diaz IMO, though Diaz is definitely worthy of being favored. I do see value here with Condit and might make a play on it. Condit has more power than Diaz, and a better chin, but in all aspects of the game, Diaz is the more technical fighter. If Condit can get close and out of Diaz's jab range, he may be able to win by dirty boxing.

The rest of the fight odds not up yet, likely due to the shitty card. LOL But I'm sure in the coming weeks they'll be up.

Awesome Diaz quote from this week...

“There’s a lot of people everywhere that do a lot of drugs. Everybody, everybody, is on drugs dude. If they’re not, they’re an alcoholic or something. I don’t know if you noticed that or whatever, look around. The thing is, you know, it’s just, it would be a lot healthier for people to think, you know, it could be, shit, this sort of thing could be the healthiest thing someone does out of their day. Let’s take for example a person whose laying in bed, a cancer patient, a fat person, if you will. Someone who doesn’t do shit all day. That muscle contraction, that core strength that kind of happens, that pulls together when you’re maybe smoking weed or whatever, you know, you’re coughing or whatever, and that blood flow that happens at that point in time, you know what I mean? It’s sort of good for you. You know what I mean? I’m not a doctor or a fucking scientist, but I’ve smoked plenty of weed. And, you know, I think in my opinion it’s pretty damn good for you. It could be the healthiest thing someone does out of their day if they’re just going to lay there. You know, the most blood flow and exercise that they get out of the day. They’re going to cough weed, you know, and as far as lungs go or whatever, I’ve never had a problem with them. There’s no chemicals involved. I don’t know if you know this, but cigarettes, you know, when people smoke cigarettes it closes your airwaves, but when you’re smoking marijuana it expands your lungs, you know, you’re breathing pretty good.”

I havent been so eager to see a fight since the Koscheck bashing by GSP - and that was mainly cause of a huge build up on TUF.

I really like Diaz - hes tough, he has the cardio, he has the ground game, he has the power, he has the mouth, he has the most ridiculous style of boxing Ive seen Chuckle. This guy is a fucking beast, and he is going to walk through Condit to become interim champ

Cant wait for the press conference afterwards!

I had Diaz 1,2,5
2 was close, 3 and 4 Condit had pretty easy
Judges scoring 46-49 are nuts

i had 1-2 diaz
3-5 condit

but diaz was out at sea though he tried to fight like the penn fight where as condit is much taller and had a much better game plan

No doubt Condit had an actual game plan while Diaz was just trying to brawl, he was smarter about the fight and the plan worked for him the end

I just dont like how they rewarded the guy who continually ran away from the action for all 5 rounds. Counter punching/striking is a legit tactic, but backing away the entire fight?

While Condit got more hits in, he didnt have any power behind most of them because he was going backwards and Diaz blocked most of the big attempts. If hes not doing any damage, does it matter how many shitty leg kicks he gets in? (Obviously it does to the judges lol, Im just saying Im not sure I agree with it).

Was hoping to see a war, instead I saw cat and mouse. GSP v Condit has the potential to be very boring after watching that

if gsp is right im pretty confident he will have to move away from his boxing like the sheilds and koshceck fights and actually do something i think it will be a good watch

I think what happened last night is that Diaz finally fought a top 5 welterweight and was exposed. As much as I find him entertaining (loved the Stockton slap!), I won't make excuses for him. Condit was better on his feet, had better kicks, knees, a more versatile attack, and beat him to the punch on many occasions. The only thing Condit didn't do was stand there in the pocket and box with him. But why should he play to Diaz's main strength?

I don't agree Rudey that Condit was "running backwards". Most of his movement was lateral and he did a lot of stick-and-moving and continually switched his stance. I think Condit v GSP has great potential but I fear that GSP is finished as an elite MMA fighter after doing his ACL.

Condit's gameplan was so sick, loved it. My friends and I were wondering wtf he was doing in the first two rounds running like a chump, but he brought it in the last three rounds. He was NOT running backwards as CD pointed out, much more lateral movement as Diaz is reliant on his straight jabs and punches. When you watch him fight, its always coming forward, he doesn't throw hooks often and his overhand right doesn't have a lot of power. Condit was just a lot more elusive and he did step in and took some cracks, but he gave Diaz just as much going in. Also looking at the way Condit came in, that three hit combo, leg kick, punch to the body and head kick was fucking brilliant and each one landed pretty hard. Condit isn't much known for his KO power, he usually outworks his opponents. This fight he outfought Diaz plain and simple.

The question is... how will Condit fight GSP? No Diaz rematch due to the dope doping... so GSP will be Condit's next bout. How will he come up with a Greg Jackson strategy to beat GSP on his own? Jackson said he won't corner either man, so I'm wondering what either side will do to train for each other.
