Apart from showing me the pics of John riding Hay List in the surf down at Geelong where he is stabled, Sue McNair showed me some others she took on a visit last week...

a few of Hay List's sire Statue of Liberty...gorgeous horse...and dam, Sing Halleluleh, lovely mare...

and the most unbelievable picture of all...Hay List's full-brother, new-born, and an absolute leviathon already...with the biggest hindquarters you have ever seen on a foal....and long-long legs...looks darker than big bro....but just jaw-dropping impressive...

I have a picture of Desert War's full brother at the same age...he looks dainty compared to this "little" mammoth...

what price at the sales in 12mnths time?...Hay List is currently rated higher than Starspangledbanner in sprinting...wish I had a copy to show you...don't know how the mare survived the birth....

John McNair has also inherited Hay List's full sister...called 'GOLDEN STATUE"...not sure of her age...possibly three....new foreman Greg says she's tall and solid, unlike her brother, who actually is only 15 hands...his weight makes him seem taller...

Hulking WA-owned sprinter Hay List is close to resuming full work after recovering from a nasty leg infection.

But whether he returns to John McNair's Gosford stable or another trainer, is yet to be determined.

Managing part-owner Terry Davenport said Hay List, who has been in pre-training at Muskoka Farm in NSW, would likely join a Melbourne stable if he races there over the autumn carnival.

Champion trainer Mark Kavanagh is one of several names that have been mentioned.

Davenport said he was leaning towards the Melbourne carnival as a launching pad to an international campaign, provided Hay List bounces back to top form.

"Our main problem is Sydney or Melbourne - where we're going to go," Davenport said.

"That takes a certain amount of thought. I'm probably leaning more to Melbourne as their big carnival is coming up.

"We've had good offers to go overseas from the UK, Dubai and Hong Kong.

"He really needs to do his thing here first, but on the other hand, the UK is as good as it gets."

Hay List could again clash with Black Caviar in the Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 27 and CF Orr Stakes and Futurity Stakes, both over 1400m at Caulfield in February.

The Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on February 18 is an option if he is not ready in January.

Hay List was withdrawn from the Doomben 10,000 last May with the infection and a setback in his recovery sidelined him for the spring.

Davenport said the six-year-old has bounced back well and "looks a million dollars".

"He's been in light work and will be back on the scene shortly," Davenport said.

"He's come back bigger and stronger and giving him plenty of time seems to be working."

the only reason he has a horse in the first place is because of the work JT did with the horse

there would be no hay list today if JT didnt have the horse to begin with he is the one who deserves credit as he gets 0% acknowledgement for his work getting the horse where it is today

BC will have plenty to chaseover 1400 and it wont be hay lsit

egomaniac control freak absolute fuckwit gets some bad press and ducks for cover like the coward he is

i used to love this horse but not any more

PART-OWNER Peter Davenport has taken to his role as Hay List's mouthpiece with relish, "guaranteeing" Black Caviar's perennial whipping boy will end the champion mare's winning streak.

All inquiries regarding Hay List have been directed from Gosford trainer John McNair to Davenport, partly because the Davenports were angered by reports the sprinter was to be switched to a Melbourne trainer.

Davenport said his father, Terry, had been inaccurately "paraphrased", setting off the rumour mill and sparking a family meeting and a decision to handle Hay List's PR.

"The other reason was to give John a chance to train the horses and not worry about all the media hype," Davenport said.

He said Black Caviar's day of reckoning would soon come, and Hay List was the only horse capable of delivering it.

"It's my prerogative as owner to say silly things like that. I will end up either with egg on my face or a slap on the back," Davenport said.

"But Hay List has never been on his game when he's taken on Black Caviar - never.

"When the moon and the stars are in alignment, he'll be the horse to beat her - I guarantee it."

Davenport hopes it happens in the 1200m T.J. Smith Stakes at Randwick on April 14, the race in which Black Caviar chased down Hay List this year.

Hay List has tackled the mare four times for a sixth to her in last year's Patinack Farm Classic, then seconds in the Lightning Stakes, T.J. Smith and BTC Cup before being sidelined with a mystery injury.

"It was an infection, some sort of a super bug," Davenport said, adding Hay List was in great shape to begin a campaign that promises occasional but not regular battles with Black Caviar. "How he's returned, he's never been better and that's a bit scary for us."

Black Caviar will tackle the Australia Stakes, Orr Stakes and Futurity Stakes before a likely bid to go back to back in the T.J. Smith.

Like Hay List, Black Caviar is destined for Royal Ascot in June.

Davenport said Hay List would resume in the 1000m Lightning at Flemington on February 18 before using the T.J. Smith as a launching pad to Royal Ascot.

He said the stable wanted to extend the gelding to 1400m and 1600m, with the dream a Cox Plate tilt.
