well time has come again for the u.s open, golf style. woot. 2nd major of the year.
played in
THE OLYMPIC CLUB
San Francisco, California
June 11-17, 2012
first of all, warning with the time difference, this could last until 1 or 2 in the morning during the weekends.
but anyway, lets look at potentials here.
rory McIlroy, defending champion, the man is on form, and in the zone of hitting it close at every flag stick last night. so obviously pumped up and ready go, he's had a good year, along with donald, the two of them have been back and forth dueling for the world number 1 spot. with ten top tens and another 4 in the us. which include win in the states and a win on the european tour.
world number 1 Luke Donald, has every accolade to his name, wins on the pga tour, wins on the european tour in the last year. the majors so far have eluded him from his grasp, and pretty much this is what he wants the most, and currently he's the worlds best player to never win a major. the only thing is that the u.s open has never been good to him, with top place finish of 12th back in 2006, other than that it's been missed cuts and 46th and 45th positions through out the years, not his best tournament. but he is on form at the moment, and will probably want to get the no majors won monkey off his back.
tiger woods, won last week, and appears to be on the prowl and making a comeback, although i still think he will do well in this, i'm having my doubts he will win, he's not quite back into his form yet, others may not agree with that.
lee westwood, won today on the european tour, came 3rd at the masters this year, has been consistent with top 5s in the majors for the last 4 years and has come close to winning this back in 2008. has had 4 top 5 finishes this season on european tour and 4 top 5 finishes on the pga tour this season, has been consistent in general. another player who has the monkey on his back. he has done well in the past and with the win he's had at the weekend in sweden, i think he could have chance this week.
ricky fowler, while not his greatest tournament, missed cuts and a 60th place, he's only played in the u.s open 4 times, but than rory only played the u.s open 3 times and won it on his 3rd attempt.
bubba watson, last decent finish he's had was 5 years, for 5th place. i'm expecting something good, but he does hit it long and straight. might have a chance.
i have other players on my mind, but there the ones that i believe could do well and not because i think there fantastic players, but mostly because i really think they have a shot. rory on his best days, can slaughter them all, actually they all can.
any one else have opinions? i can't wait.
who's placing bets? i'm not this time around, have no money

100% irish and european and darn proud too

the ryder cup is coming!!!!!
