Eric Gordon signed for the max with Phoenix...though Hornets can match, Gordon's statement below indicates that they probably won't.

Quote:
After visiting the Suns, the impression the organization made on me was incredible" [...]. Mr. Sarver, Lon Babby, Lance Blanks, the front office staff and Coach Gentry run a first-class organization, and I strongly feel they are the right franchise for me. Phoenix is just where my heart is now.

Hornets are probably better off letting Gordon go. Rivers's natural position is SG. They can start Jack/Rivers (abit small on the backcourt), or get a bigger guard that costs less.

If the Suns have given up on retaining Nash, then Gordon might be a good first rebuilding piece. Gortat / Gordon are solid options on the inside / outside. But they need a replacement for Nash.

Hornets might match and then trade him to get a draft pick for him or something?
I think Gordon is a very risky player to sign for a max deal though. He hardly played last season and was in and out of injury troubles.
Plus although he's a very good scorer, I wouldn't rate him as a superstar that commands a max contract.

Suns sign Beasley too...

Quote:

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly agreed to a three-year deal with future unrestricted free agent, Michael Beasley, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

Just going up online: Michael Beasley has committed to sign with Phoenix Suns on a three-year, $18 mil, sources close to situation tell ESPN

Beasley, a former member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, was originally a restricted free agent but became available when it broke that the T-Wolves plan on refusing to extend a qualifying offer to the 23-year-old, per Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune.

However, that unrestricted status doesn't become official until July 11 when free agents can begin signing with their desired teams. The Suns were one of five teams in the running for Beasley, per Marc Stein of ESPN.

Beasley has been a major disappointment in his career after being selected No. 2 overall by the Miami Heat. He was then subsequently dealt upon the notion that the "Big Three" were going to happen in South Beach and Beasley needed to go to help make it happen.

During the strike-shortened season, Beasley averaged 11.5 points per game and 4.4 rebounds in a meager 23 minutes per contest. But Phoenix must be looking at his best season as a reason for the attraction, as the former lottery pick averaged 19 points and 5.6 rebounds per.

This move comes just after the Suns dealt their long-time superstar point guard, Steve Nash, to the Los Angeles Lakers in a sign-and-trade that netted them several draft picks, according to Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic.

Paul Coro @paulcoro

In the Nash sign-and-trade, the #Suns will get 2013 & 2015 first-round picks and 2013 & 2014 second-round picks.

Clearly, Phoenix is building for the future, and Beasley will be one of the key components. It will be interesting to see how he does in an offense more centered around his abilities.

There is no more Steve Nash and the Suns must go in a completely different direction. I'd say this fourth of July wheeling and dealing was one heck of a start.

And now Dragic...
Suns are in full-speed rebuilding mode

Quote:
ESPN's Marc Stein reports that the Phoenix Suns have struck a deal with unrestricted free agent Goran Dragic.

According to Stein, the deal will pay Dragic $34 million over four seasons.

Though drafted by the San Antonio Spurs, Dragic saw his draft rights acquired by the Suns following the 2008 NBA draft. He subsequently played three seasons for Phoenix.

He averaged slightly under five points and two assists per game in his first season for the Suns, but improved his averages the next year to eight points and three assists.

Right before the trade deadline last year, Dragic was traded to the Houston Rockets, along with a first-round pick, in exchange for point guard Aaron Brooks, to whom the Suns recently extended a qualifying offer.

This past season—his first full one in Houston—Dragic increased his numbers to a career-high 12 points and five assists per game, and he filled in admirably while starting point guard Kyle Lowry was out with a bacterial infection.

ESPN's Marc Stein reported yesterday that the Suns dealt starting point guard Steve Nash to the Lakers in a sign-and-trade deal, and Phoenix wasted no time getting another point guard.

With the 13th overall pick in last week's draft, the Suns drafted point guard Kendall Marshall, who won the Bob Cousy Award (given to the nation's best college point guard) this past season. It remains uncertain whether Dragic or Marshall will start.

Though $8.5 million annually is slightly too much for a point guard of Dragic's caliber, he might very well blossom into a terrific point guard in Phoenix and help guide the Suns through this rebuilding project.

Based on the latest moves, Suns seem to have already formed their line-up for the post-Nash era...

PG: Dragic
SG: Eric Gordon
SF: Beasley
PF: Frye/Morris?
C: Gortat
6th: Jeremy Lamb

A much younger team overall, but having thrown all their money at Gordon/Dragic/Beasley, they won't be able to improve the rest of their roster by much? In a tough Western conference, don't think the lineup above are good enough to make the playoffs...

yeah agree Jase - this is not a playoff team.
Gortat has been great but with Nash gone can he consistently create his own shot?
Dragic had some nice games in Houston and racked up some big assist totals but he's nowhere near Nash's level in terms of playmaking ability.
Beasley is a nutcase, Frye and Morris are inconsistent as hell. Gordon is looking good as a fantasy league sleeper (if he stays healthy) but I don't think it'll translate to a huge amount of wins.

If Gordon goes down again, they might have to stick the rookie into the lineup, and suddenly the team looks so much worse:

PG: Dragic
SG: Jeremy Lamb
SF: Beasley
PF: Frye/Morris?
C: Gortat

Defensively, teams will just run them over.

yep that lineup has lottery pick written all over it, and maybe that's what they are planning all along?
With the extra 1st round picks they're due to get and the ones that they may tank themselves into getting, this team could probably compete again in another 2-3 years.

In other news, Jason Terry left the Mavs and signed with the Boston Celtics, 3 years 15.6mil

yep 4 years for $29mil that's a steal hahah
Rockets can expect a major boost in jersey sales in China, and I predict he'll be voted into the all star starting 5 lol
But I think he's a restricted FA, meaning the Knicks can match the offer?
They'd be crazy not to, even though they just signed Kidd, Lin is so popular and showed he's got some nice upside.

How about Brandon Roy signing with the T'Wolves?
Does he have any knees left to hold up for an 82 game season Dunno

Philadelphia (flip-flip-flip-a-delphia) has also just released Elton Brand, they waived him to cut his 18.2mil from the books. Expensive move!
And maybe another team can pick him up dirt cheap now as a nice role player at the 4, I have a feeling he'll join a team like Spurs, Heat, Mavs, OKC or Lakers and try to grab a title.

Miami could start Wade at pg and run Allen at sg.
Bron and Wade are the primary ballhandlers most of the time anyway so Chalmers isn't really needed in their starting 5.
With both Battier and Allen spreading the floor, Bron and Wade will tear teams up even more than usual lol

Lin won't be a Rocket. Knicks are going to stupidly match that offer as soon as they are allowed to

$7mil ain't too bad for an average PG in the NBA given what most other guys are making these days.

Plus, Lin's team will make twice that amount back in jersey, merchandise sales and sponsorships etc.
