Put your thoughts here on the London Games.

I love the Games, and it's history, I cannot wait for it to get underway. I reckon the opening ceremony will be awesome.

GB will finish way ahead of the Aussies on the medal count. I see Australia getting about 10 gold medals, and finishing about 5th or 6th on the medal tally.

Looking forward to seeing Aussie James Magnussen in 100 mteres freestyle ... we've had guns like Thorpe, Perkins in 400/1500 but no men swimming sprinters!

Also 100m track-men is always good viewing.

Australia smashed Great Britain in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics medal tallies, but got overtaken in 2008.
I think being the host nation it's safe to say GBR will have a very strong showing in this olympics and probably finish 4th overall.

Depending on who you listen to, Australia is projected to either finish 5th with 16 gold medals or slip to 7th with only 10 gold medals

We do alright in a bunch of sports not just swimming - rowing, cycling plus picking up a few surprise ones.
Here's hoping the 1st prediction is correct cheers

Magnussen blew it and the team had no back-up game plan ... also to not front the media ... made no friends ...can he lift for his race?

1st Olympics ... did we expect too much or was he too confident ... flopped in 4x100m relay and pipped by 0.01 in his event ... 100m freestyle.

All our silver medallists in the pool seem upset, except for A FEW?

Anyways, well done ... they can only do their best, ey?

Man what happened to Magnussen? He should have won the 100 free! I mean I'm glad that the American won, but it almost seemed like Magnussen "cruised" because he was a bit overconfident. Aussies should have won more swimming gold, they have a tough, TOUGH team this year, but seem to be faltering when it counts.

Shocking, only 1 gold for the Aussies thus far. Heading for an all time worst performance at this rate...

Athletes on notice after Australian rower detained by police in London

Date August 3, 2012 - http://www.smh.com.au

AUSTRALIAN team boss Nick Green will re-issue a warning to all Olympic athletes about post-competition behaviour after the arrest of rower Josh Booth for allegedly damaging shopfronts in a village west of London.

The young Melbourne University oarsman will face questioning at Staines police station in Surrey on Friday after being detained by police in the early hours of Thursday morning on suspicion of criminal damage to business premises in the village of Egham, near the Lake Dorney Olympic rowing venue.

After being arrested and taken to the station on Thursday, he fainted and hit his head and was driven to St Peter’s Hospital in nearby Chertsey to be treated before being released into the care of Australian team staff.

Booth had been out drinking with teammates near the Royal Holloway rowing athletes village in the hours before the incident, having wound up his Olympic competition when the men’s eight finished last in a six-crew final on Wednesday. Surrey Police said officers had been called to Egham High Street about 1.40am where they found two smashed windows and arrested a 21-year-old man.

Green, Australia’s chef de mission in London, had advised the country’s 410 Olympic athletes before the Games began about how they should conduct themselves when their particular competitions were complete and will do so again in the wake of Booth landing in trouble.

‘‘It would be fair to say he will repeat the fact that there needs to be responsible use of alcohol by all team members when they finish competition,’’ team spokesman Mike Tancred said.

Booth’s arrest happened hours after his crew was specifically warned about the dangers of letting loose once its racing schedule had finished. Teammate Toby Lister confirmed head rowing coach Andrew Matheson had issued the warning after a lengthy post-race debrief.

"We had a discussion about respecting other athletes and just sort of being sensible," Lister said.

"Being one of the first crews finishing up it was important to be respectful to the other rowers. Obviously we were disappointed at coming sixth in an Olympic final. We had a few beers in the afternoon and the last time I saw him was about 10 O’clock. He was fine, he was absolutely fine.’’

Green said he would wait until the police matter was closed before determining any disciplinary measures but described the episode as ‘‘unfortunate’’.

‘‘We understand alcohol was involved,’’ he said. ‘‘I won’t deal in hypotheticals. I’ll wait until the information comes and I’ll make a decision based on what the information says.’’

Rowing Australia CEO Andrew Dee said he did not want to comment on the incident until fully aware of the circumstances. Matheson also refused to comment. On Thursday morning, after being released from hospital, Booth was in the care of team section manager Ray Ebert. His parents, in London for the Olympics, had also been contacted.

The International Olympic Committee said Booth’s case was a timely reminder for all athletes at the Games. ‘‘I’d say drink wisely,’’ the IOC’s spokesman Mark Adams said.

‘‘The Australian case is in the hands of the police and the Australian Olympic Committee are dealing with it.

‘‘I think that someone said this morning that Bradley [Wiggins] probably deserved a good celebration and I think it was probably the case. But yes, of course we’d ask all athletes after their competition - because clearly before their competition they shouldn’t be drinking at all - to clearly drink wisely.’’

gotta love this line.

The real challenge to Australia’s sporting self-esteem has been issued by the Kiwis who, with three gold medals (all from rowing), were perched seven places higher than Australia on the medal table.

anyway i wont take the piss, things are bad enough already.

its not all bad, another couple of golds should see you lot rise above khazakstan in the medal table.

thats 12 silvers now 20 medals, and not a peep out of you, anyway looked at the medal table before on the bbc site.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/spo...s/2012/medals/countries

if you want to see the aussie totals you will have to use the scroll bar, as you can only see a list of the first 22 places.

correction
its not all bad, another 6 golds should see you lot rise above khazakstan in the medal table.

both campbells score a 7 in the totty ratings, too many hotties to mention in synchronized swimming, you deffo got one of the best looking teams in that.
