A four-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers is complete, multiple sources told ESPN on Thursday night.

A source with direct knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com's Marc Stein the Lakers will receive Howard, the Denver Nuggets will acquire Andre Iguodala, the 76ers will receive Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson, and the Magic will get Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic and one protected future first-round pick from each of the other three teams.

In addition, the Magic will be getting other pieces, including 76ers No. 1 draft pick Moe Harkless, a source told Stein.

Sources close to the process told Stein and ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne that a trade call with the league office has been scheduled for Friday to secure the necessary NBA approval to make the deal official.

Lakers forward Pau Gasol had been in and out of talks, sources told Shelburne, before ultimately being excluded.

One source briefed on Howard's plans told Stein that the All-Star center will indeed stand firm on his intent to play out the 2012-13 season without extending his contract so he can become a free agent on July 1, 2013. Going that route will enable Howard to decide how comfortable he is in Los Angeles before deciding whether to re-sign with the Lakers or join the Dallas Mavericks, who will have the requisite salary-cap space to sign Howard and remain one of his preferred destinations from his original list of three teams (Brooklyn Nets, Lakers and Mavericks).

"If Los Angeles doesn't work out for Dwight, Dallas will be there waiting for him," the source told Stein.

One source close to Kobe Bryant, meanwhile, told Stein that the Lakers' star was estatic Thursday night upon hearing that Los Angeles was able to complete such a significant transaction without surrendering Gasol. Bryant is currently with Team USA at the London Olympics.

Sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that Philadelphia has not spoken to Bynum or his representatives, and has no assurances he will sign a long-term extension with the team.

"The Sixers are willing to take a shot (without Bynum's commitment)," one source said.

Although Bynum signing an extension with the 76ers is not out of the question, according to a source, his stance all summer has been he only will sign an extension with the Lakers.

Bynum, who grew up about an hour away from Philadelphia in Plainsboro, N.J., could sign a three-year, $60 million extension this season or wait to become a free agent after the season and be eligible for a five-year, $102 million deal.

Earlier Thursday, Yahoo! Sports, citing sources, reported that talks of a four-team trade involving Howard have taken place this week and have "grown serious."

Near the end of July, Howard met with Magic general manager Rob Hennigan and reiterated he still wants to be traded, and if he isn't, will leave the team as a free agent after next season.

The Lakers' position on Howard had remained relatively unchanged for the past few months, league sources familiar with the situation told ESPNLosAngeles.com. The Lakers always had been willing to trade for Howard without assurances he'd re-sign with them after the season, believing that once Howard experienced a championship culture, he would want to stay.

I think Sixers won big time here by turning Iggy and a couple of picks into 1 of the 2 best centres in the league. Iggy has been good for them but it was obviously time to go a different direction with the amoung of other young athletic guys they have. Just need to convince Bynum to re-sign.

Sixers did very well to get Bynum.

Lakers obviously improve. Amazing starting 5 and Antawn Jamison will be one of the best 6th men on any team. Will they start as favourites for the championship?

What on earth do the Magic get??!!! Dunno

I would have thought Brooklyn's offer was far better.

How the hell did this go through after all the other deals the Magic turned down??

Desperation? Or Stern-tampering?

Magic held out for a worse deal, sounds like George Costanza Very Happy

Loving Lakers chances to win a title this year with Nash, D12, Jamison added for Bynum.

Me and Bonkerz both put $100ea on the Lakers when they were 8.00 odds to win the title too. Gonna be fun to see how next season unfolds. My only concern is that he isn't extending with LA yet, if he becomes a big distraction late in the season again and starts acting all wishy washy, he could become a problem. I think he'll extend when they start blowing teams out though

Nice get at 8-1. They're down to 2-1 or 5/2 depending where you look in Vegas

Lakers are still paying 3.95 at WBX

I thought they would be the favourite everywhere already but Miami is still slightly ahead of them.

I'm really starting to hate these super teams even more now... This ones a bit different in that Nash/Kobe are on their last legs and likely only have a year or two left in them though.

I think this team now is more dangerous than Miami as they really have no weakness other than age/injury risk. Miami still has no center and if they did meet in the finals D-12 would absolutely dominate down low.

All bets are one unit ($50) unless otherwise noted.

Mavs are up to 48.00 odds on WBX now.
The odds for the Mavericks are so all over the place really!
They're paying 17.00 for the title at Paddy Power, and 30.00 at Betdaq.

Most places are paying 20-30 for Dallas with a couple at low 40's but I'm still surprised to see them up so high.
Houston Rockets are 46.00, how is Dallas lower than the Rockets, I don't get that.. Dunno

Mavs added: Mayo, Brand, Collison, Chris Kaman
and lost: ancient J Kidd, Terry and screwed up Odom

So really the only piece they lost was Terry, but what they've added in size makes up for that.
Brand/Dirk/Kaman/Marion is a gonna be a rebounding force, and they have some quick guards to push the ball on the break as well (Mayo, Beaubois, Collison).

I disagree. And it's better to have 2 superteams than just 1.

The Bulls back in 95 had Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc, Ron Harper and won 72 games and dominated everyone, and the league wasn't shit back then because of it.

Bulls won 72 games by an average margin of 12 ppg. Last season the Heat went 46-20 and won their games by an average of 6ppg.

The league can have an imbalance and still be a lot of fun to watch. Can you imagine if there was a Western Conference team with the same firepower as the 95/96 Bulls that they had to contend with (e.g. Olajuwon + Barkley + Stockton + Kemp) and that series went to 7 games? Razz

Lakers Vs Heat is going to be a clash of the titans!

Nash Vs Wade

Kobe Vs Bron

Pau Vs Bosh

D12 Vs Joel Anthony / Eddy Curry Mr. Green

lol they got in Elton Bland who is old, but Kidd pretty much needed oil on his knees like the tinman last season and was running every game like he had a shit in his pants so I still reckon they've gotten younger Very Happy

And Kaman was a beast in the last 20 or so games for the Hornets.

Dude had 18-13-2bpg upside, and frees up Dirk to play like a fairy on the perimeter to his heart's content.
