What can I say, it's disappointing. We are headed for our lowest gold total since Montreal, 1976. A lot has been said about the attitude of the team and blah blah but I agree with Stephanie Rice, it's not through lack of effort that we haven't got the results. These guys train hard, it's what they live for. I think what's happened here - and no-one seems to want to discuss it - is that Australia has dominated in a relatively soft sport (swimming) for years. It's all been about the swimming (see http://en.wikipedia.org/...stralia_at_the_Olympics). The rest of the world has caught up and we are now producing results that on par with other relatively small nations - shock horror.

hopefully we can get a few more gold medals, we're a chance in several events still I think.
Is a bit disappointing compared to what we're used to but like you said, everyone's swimming so fast in this olympics..
did you see the world record in the 1500m? dude ripped it!

And gutted that Aus has less golds than NZ too hahah

Loving the games (from a betting perspective), not from an Aussie perspective, as so many near misses. I have heaps of various multi's going. I have already secured the women's marathon, Pole Vault and 10,000m, now need a few of (hopefully all) the German discus thrower, Sally, Usain, Dibaba in the 5000, Rudisha in the 800m, to get a few multis up.
