One of the revelations of season 2011, Sam featured in 19 NRL matches on his way to being a very popular winner of the Bulldogs Rookie of the Year award. As softly spoken as he is physically impressive, Sam has made a big impact since arriving at the Club in early 2010.

Giant prop Sam Kasiano was one of the revelations of Toyota Cup season 2010 at the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, starting the year as an almost-unknown while finishing it as one of the standouts of the entire competition.

Invited to trial prior to the start of the season, the quietly spoken and deeply religious Kiwi made an immediate impact on his coaches, earning high praise for his footwork and endurance. After missing the opening four matches of the season, Kasiano was called into action by Bulldogs coach Andy Patmore for the side’s round five clash against the New Zealand Warriors. There he stayed for all but one of the Bulldogs remaining 22 matches for the year, missing only the round 18 clash against the Melbourne Storm with a shoulder complaint.

Standing at 196 centimetres and weighing in at 122 kilograms, Kasiano is a damaging ball runner while also being formidable in defence. Deceptively mobile for such a big man, the 20 year old will benefit from a full off season training with the Bulldogs top squad as he continues his rise through the Rugby League ranks.

Auckland-born Kasiano started playing Rugby League at the age of eight for the Otahuhu Leopards, the club that produced former Kiwi captains Reuben Wiki, Richie Barnett, Hugh McGahan and Mark Graham, as well as current players Manu Vatuvei, Clinton Toopi, and Thomas Leuluai, to name a few. He gave the game away when he started high school, but returned following his move to Brisbane, where he played under 18’s for the Aspley Devils before being picked up by the Norths Devils colts for the 2009 season.

Sams been in great form for the Dogs, has become such a key player in a short space of time. Sam who originally came down from Brisbane for a trial was told immediately after the trial that he wont be going home and removalists will have his belongings to his new home in a few days, true story!

He can become lazy and make clumsy errors in the back end of games especially if under pressure on the scoreboard, and i think that is due to the weight his carrying 130kg+ is just ridiculous this day in age, im sure Des has a plan in mind for him and will have a big off season for 2013. Id expect 2014 to be the season for him

All in all in think Sam will play for Qld one day but he needs to lose weight and become more mobile, he wouldnt last 15 minutes at Origin level at present
