A few shock absentees ... Mathew Pavlich, Jack Reiwoldt, Sam Jacobs, Sam Mitchell, Corey Enright, Josh Gibson (didnt even make the original 40!). 15 newcomers ... I cant argue with backs and centreline. Nic Nat as 1st ruck with average stats against Cox (who is FP?) ... he'll get better so with his bar low he's in the team for next 7-10 years! The 2012 AFL ALL-AUSTRALIAN TEAM: B: Sean Dempster (StK), Luke McPharlin (Frem), Darren Glass (WC) [C] HB: Beau Waters (WC), Ted Richards (Syd), Grant Birchall (Haw) C: Trent Cotchin (Rich), Jobe Watson (Ess), Dayne Beams (Coll) HF: Patrick Dangerfield (Adel), Lance Franklin (Haw), Cyril Rioli (Haw) F: Stephen Milne (StK), Tom Hawkins (Geel), Dean Cox (WC) FOLL: Nick Naitanui (WC) , Scott Thompson (Adel), Gary Ablett (GC) [V-C] I/C: Brett Deledio (Rich), Josh Kennedy (Syd), Dane Swan (Coll), Scott Pendlebury (Coll) see more ... http://www.smh.com.au/af...ve-co...0917-262b0.html

Only reason I can think of for having Cox and Nat like that is just the combo they present, goal kicking, possesion winners and good ruckmen. Maric and Jacobs were great all year. And Pav missing out is shocking!

Good perspective ... the selectors picked the ruck combo - as a pair they are unequalled ... both mark, run, tap ruck, play forward well, drop back ... total dominant ... rare but a fair point. ^^^^^^^**************************^^^^^^^ Kochie, KT, Ken, KO ... getting it right! #weareportadelaide

Gerard Healy, Chief of the AFL All-Aust selection panel says that Nic Nat plays as ruck 50% of time and has better ruck stats in that 50% than any of the full time ruckman! 6 of 7 selectors thought this, too. WTF! ^^^^^^^**************************^^^^^^^ Kochie, KT, Ken, KO ... getting it right! #weareportadelaide

My roomate did a stats comparison with Jacobs and nicnat for the year as we both had Jacobs in the team...he reckons Nic came out on top in more statistical categories than Jacobs...so maybe there is some merit. If you have the combo, you don't have to waste a bench spot on another ruckmen, plus yuo have 2 more guys who can play midfield...maybe the AA is evolving into an actual "team" scenario rather than the best player in each position. Prob would have been less backlash if they had Cox as ruck, Pav in the pocket and Nicnat on the bench.

Mitchell was unlucky IMO. I am glad they didn't take the easy way out and plonk for Riewoldt. He doesn't go too far from goal, and just doesn't have the same workrate as some of the other big forwards, plus his body language is very poor at times. Agreed about Jack, he won the coleman, but he wasn't the most damaging forward around by any means and hate his attitude some times. In all honesty I hadn't really noticed Mitchell this year compared to others, but seemed like he was his consistent self.

Or have Cyril and Buddy had enough cracking games to get over him?

I think he will poll more than those two. Banner by Pooc!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fuk6e5hEeYI

Happy as a pig in shit to see West Coast clear the floor with 4 members of the team. Glass, Waters and Cox all deserving. Was disappointed to see Nic Nat get selected but. Especially as first ruck. I love my West Coast and the boys in team but i just felt Naitanui wasn't deserving of the title of All Australian ruckman this year. Jacobs incredibly stiff
Pavlich incredibly unlucky also. Mitchell unlucky. So was Andrew Swallow IMHO. Carried that North midfield and has been for a couple of years now. He does more in and under work for that North midfield than Swan or Pendlebury for the Pies
Milne and Rioli weren't worthy enough of selection. Could have easily listed Ablett, Cotchin or Beams in a FP. Giving Kennedy a starting role in the team (much deserving)
Was happy with the team until it reached the half forward line. Buddy as good as he was will always create debate due to Pavlich missing altogether and Buddy missing a handful of games near the end of the year when Pavlich was single handedly dragging the Dockers to the final 8
