I'm loving Saintly's girl, Ortensia. She'll be close to spot on this before freshening up for an overseas stint.

She wasn't given a chance last start, got out too late and the winner was belong side her by then. Get her out the top of the straight and she would of sprang away and made it to hard for them.

She gets in with a very nice weight, and lets be honest, it's not a real great field. Gilded Venom, Niconero and Bank Robber would of put shame to most of these. She'll love the mile, and i keep on thinking about her Stradbroke run, she was great that day and took on twice as good as field. Too good.

All American goes up 2.5kg off his Emirates win, he had every thing to suit that day. Noonan wouldn't want to take her overseas for G1's if she wasn't a very good horse.

Grand Nirvana never had the best of passages. I liked his run considering and think he is the best chance of our lot.

Agree that Kasabian is a big chance as well and I like the idea of a local victory.

Well she hasn't beaten anything. But she was a cert beaten last start IMO and before that ran against the best sprinters in the land and was very unlucky not to go close in the Schweppes. That form is pretty damn good.

Gold Salute is a top horse, very consistent yet may be just 2 or 3 lengths off the real G1 horses at there best.

Good luck anyway mate. Thumbs up

Tuesday, 17 November 2009: Smart Victorian mare Ortensia is likely to take her place in Saturday's Group 1 Railway Stakes after her workout in Perth this morning.

Trainer Tony Noonan said he is yet to make up his mind to running the mare in this weekend's race or next weekend's Winterbottom Stakes.

The mare is yet to race at a mile but in her work today, though, according to Noonan, seemingly settled well enough and is likely to start in this weekend's rich feature race.

Following this morning's barrier draw, where Ortensia drew barrier 13, she remained firm at her $8.00 quote, along with Grand Nirvana on the third line of betting.

Gold Salute has tightened his grip on favouritism to $4.50 after drawing well in barrier seven, while All American also firmed to $7.00 with his draw of barrier two.

She is still a serious horse smiddy! If you take away the run on cup day and go on her close finish behind the cat, micmac, bank robber etc she is top class. On cup day it was a graveyard for favourites, id forget she ran and go on her previous form. We saw her get beat by dorf command in sydney as a short priced fav. She is a serious chance in this i would have thought. Just a bit concerned hearing that a few of the vics were left in the heat on the tarmac for a few hours, hopefully fully recovered!

thats 1200m at the valley is so far away from a rock hard track at 1600m at ascot which she has never run over

i think she has no chance

the true milers have her covered quite easily

she should of gone the 1200m she cant win that running in the railway

Ortensia's 1400m form is pretty good. She had Romneya, Sugar Babe and bugeis covered quite easily in the Thousand Guineas Prelude last year. Ran a teriffic race in the Stradbroke.

Of course she is a slight query (they all are until they have done it) over the distance, but I think she will handle it. With little obvious pace, she can get across and take a nice sit, and should look the winner at some stage in the straight (even if she does not win). I think she will go super. Thumbs up

If she stays @ 8's, I will definitely have a lash.

Thursday, 19 November 2009: Victorian galloper Gold Salute has been sensationally backed to win Saturday's $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes at Ascot.

The Mark Riley trained gelding is not only looking to break his Group 1 duck but break a drought for interstate horses in the race with Slavonic a decade ago being the last visiting winner.

But if money is anything to go by punters are confident Gold Salute can bring up a win with bets pouring in for the gelding since the barrier draw on Tuesday.

After Gold Salute was as much as $5 prior to the draw he has continued to firm to $3.00 with TAB Sportsbet reporting $40,000 of bets on the galloper alone today.

Fellow Victorians All American and Ortensia share the second line of betting at $7.50.
