Hi all, I've noticed that annoying error has come back again lately:

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Must be a server/high traffic issue somewhere along the line, happens occasionally to me but not to a "pull my hair out, driving me crazy" extent.

There you have it...high traffic = rapid refresh to boost view stats = critical errors for the rest of us! For shame...

take several-thousand phpBB forum users who perform the same function simultaneously: eg. 'homepage' 'search' 'preview' 'submit' 'edit' at nearly the same moment in time and what happens is that the phpBB site shits itself into a "Critical Error" because of the way that the phpBB platform for the forum's were built.

the way that this forum platform and other phpBB forums were built means that the simultaneous usage-function pattern issues are experienced whenever the phpBB site is overloaded in relationship to the phpBB site's platform, simultaneous usage-function pattern issues and server ie. the phpBB site gets overlaoded, slows down and subsequently shits itself: "Critical Error".

the 121s forum shitting itself is less about this forum and more to do with the platform that the phpBB site has for it's forums. the phpBB site and the phpBB forum platform shits themself because of the simultaneous usage-function pattern issue that it has. this forum (and other phpBB forums) have been constructed upon a code that the phpBB site uses. the code shits itself whenever it experiences the simultaneous usage-function pattern issue and we all get "Critical Error".

the server is not actually shitting itself but rather the individual phpBB platform and the phpBB site are shitting themself/ves. asking us at 121s to "stop clicking" is useless unless everyone else on a phpBB forum site does the same thing and we collectively stop shitting phpBB into a "Critical Error".

if phpBB build a new code so that there is a more robust platform for us to play on everyone can stop shitting themselves and we will all live happily ever after.

slouchy nothing to do with too much use of the nav buttons and the "phpBB platform shitting itself". the error means coldie hasn't configured his phpBB's database settings properly. i did some research and thats what i came to believe.

This error means that you have not configured your PhpBB's database settings properly. Revise the configuration file of phpBB which is config.php located in the directory where your forum resides.

Please note that your database names and usernames always begin the following prefix "user_" where user stands for your username. For more information about Mysql management check this video tutorial.

Another reason for this error is when your database has been deleted. In this case you will have to restore it from a backup. If you don't have a local backup you can use Siteground's.
