I got a real funny feeling, after Fraser Gehrig's comments that the Saints may of chased Ben Cousins.

Whoever gets him will be on good terms with themselves.

I reckon he will nominate the Pies.

You also have his best mate Gardiner at the St's. Could be a clincher.

Could be a mess as well. If he does come to us, they better make certain he is a %100 clean and is no risk what so ever. No risks should be taken and maybe restrict Gardiner and Cousins contact to just training and football and social club activities.

He's had a few meeting with Collingwood officials which is obviously a large indicator.

There's been a lot of talk that Ricky Nixon has told clubs they will only be negotiating with Collingwood and Daniel Kerr came out yesterday and said he believed he will be a magpie.

We will find out tomorrow. If he doesn't select us it's because we've gone cold on him.

He'd probably slip straight into the midfield positions left vacant by Burns at Collingwood and Harvey at St. Kilda

I personally think he'll be a Pie. Thumbs up

'We would take Cousins back'
Tim Clarke
September 26, 2008 - 2:45PM
Eagles coach John Worsfold would welcome Ben Cousins back at the club next year, according to his senior lieutenant Peter Sumich.

But the assistant coach said only a massive change of heart from the board would allow the disgraced star to resume his career at the Eagles.

With Cousins due to reveal his footballing intentions for 2009 tomorrow, Sumich made the startling admission that senior Eagles coaching staff had discussed the possibility of Cousins returning once his 12-month AFL ban was over.

The Eagles senior assistant said if there was a surge of support among Eagle players to bring back Cousins, they would approach the board - he but had little confidence chairman Mark Barnaba and his fellow executive would listen favourably.

"It has been discussed at our club … and myself and John would have Ben back at the club," Sumich told 6PR's Footy on the Road panel audience.

"I think the players have done a big turnaround on that side of things … but it would come down to a board decision, and there is no chance.

"Personally I would love to see him back. I think … if he wants to continue his career (it) should finish at West Coast.

"He has done the hard yards, and he learned his lessons through us making a hard decision on him as a match committee.

"If they (the players) make a strong pull, myself and John would put something together and we would take it to the board … but it would be a big thing to change them around at the moment."

The fallen AFL star will appear on Channel Seven's grand final preview show on Saturday morning to apparently outline his ambitions for the next year - having spent the past twelve months fighting drug addiction and serving an AFL ban for bringing the game into disrepute.

However, nominating his club of choice - which is likely to be Collingwood - will only be the first step in his comeback. He has first to convince the league he is ready to play again.

"Cousins will appear on a panel ... and will answer the question the football world has been awaiting for almost 12 months," the Seven network said in a statement.

"Cousins is also expected to outline whether he thinks he could still match it with the best in the AFL."

Cousins appeared at Monday night's Brownlow Medal count with his mother, but declined to comment. He was then spotted in Melbourne following a meeting with AFL Player's Association boss Brendon Gale.

The 238-game player, who won Brownlow in 2005, has trained with local WAFL clubs Perth and East Fremantle - and has met with Magpies coach Mick Malthouse several times during his forced hiatus.

Meanwhile, Sumich also said the Eagles would know within 24 hours whether former Collingwood captain Scott Burns was coming to the club as an assistant coach.

Burns was in Perth this week to meet with club officials and he was reportedly offered a lucrative chance to begin his coaching career in WA.

none of the discussion makes any practical sense.
the rules as laid out in the pre-season draft allow for the team that has finished last in the previous season (2008 [Melbourne]) to purchase his service's first.
his preference has nothing to do with anything.

Was watching before the bounce earlier.

Brownless had lunch with Cuzz today, Sheehan said he'll be at Collingwood next year. Brownless nodded.

I thuink you will find a delisted or uncontracted player can negoiate with any club prior to the draft

Correct. They can put a price on their head making it easier to reach a club of choice.

However the draft is still a gamble.

that's not the point.
the point is that if he is eligible he enters into the PSD.
if melbourne decide that they can afford him they have first option on the man.
these are the facts Thumbs up
