I'm quite tolerant of everyone and everything these days.

I just find it hard to have any sort of sympathy for a man, or any person for that matter that brings his problems on himself and that he seems to be glorified by the media afterwards makes me a little ill.

Maybe it's because I just spent 6 weeks in Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and saw what real hardship is and what those people have to go through.

I just hope Mr Cousins has the strength to stay away from that crap when he moves on from the game that seemingly looks like is saving him in the next day or so.

I'm a supporter of Cousins by the way. I hope things work out. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

Watch out for mad Monday though.

Well, he went out having played pretty well. He wasn't right, and his Hamstring was definitely worrying him, but he still got 21 disposals and 7 marks.

I just hope he can find something in his life that keeps him occupied so there is no devastating relapse.

No doubt there will be some ups and downs for him (pardon the pun) but it was good to see him get through the game today. Let's hope the worst is over for him. Good luck Ben !

an exerp from the book its a good read

Self-confessed drug addict Ben Cousins has revealed how he evaded drug detectors for his entire career in his autobiography.

Cousins never recorded an official strike from AFL testers but has admitted he was at varying times addicted to ice, cocaine and speed.

In his autobiography, Ben Cousins: My Life Story, Cousins details the lengths he went to avoid detection for a disease that eventually saw him deregistered by the AFL.

"I had to plan methodically, looking for windows when we had a Friday night or Saturday afternoon game and I'd know I had enough time to rest and get the drugs out of my system," he said.

"Six-day breaks were too hard, but if we had an eight-day break I'd be rubbing my hands together.

"There was a urine-testing program in place, but I'd learnt that I only got tested once or twice a season, and the testers never came on Mondays, when I was at my most vulnerable.

"As I never took drugs within four or five days of a game, and as I concentrated on cocaine, which I believed was the quickest out of my system, I thought I was safe."

Later in Cousins' career, he began smoking ice and cocaine regularly, going on two-month off-season binges.

The AFL has said Cousins' awareness that there were drug testers at a training session in 2007 saw him refuse to attend, which led to his eventual sacking by West Coast.

But Cousins said he took only Xanax and Valium the previous night, and after missing the morning session, was drug tested that afternoon.

In a confusing contradiction, Cousins said despite not taking illegal drugs he and teammate Daniel Chick would have "blown it up", meaning they would have tested positive.

As drug testing became more rigorous, Cousins was clearly unbelievably lucky to evade detection.

But in his book Cousins said the AFL's 'three-strikes' policy encouraged him to take drugs.

"I had my only drug-testing scare in a decade (in 2002)," he wrote. "The testing was still in competition and for statistical purposes. Two or three guys got tested on game day, every five or six weeks.

"That year, I tested positive once, but the club wasn't told which six players it was.

"They called six of us in, and I imagined they knew it was me, but all we got was a general talk.

"I'd always ridden the odds on the drug testing, knowing the angles and loopholes.

"It became a three-strikes system. Even if I got caught, I'd have a couple of strikes up my sleeve."

Hate beating up on people with problems but Cousins will be making these headlines until he goes to the grave...which could be at a young age if he doesn't find something in life worth cleaning up for.

Like you said Smiddy, pity the child.

Former West Coast and Richmond superstar, Ben Cousins will spend the night in hospital after falling and hitting his head on a washing basin causing him injuries to his head and neck. Cousins fell while at a small private rehabilitation which specialises in drug addiction and psychological problems.

It rates highly yeh. Terribly sad for his family watching this play out once again. Bryan and Steph and hs siblings are lovely people and stood by Ben through it all. Never abandoned him. Especially sad for his fiancee and newborn son. I really hoped that would be a significant positive impact in his life but sounds like it hasnt been that easy.

All reports atm BUT apparently his just been on a week long binge before entering rehab, and his 4 days in hospital where wrecked with paranoia. Locking himself in a cupboard and eventually needing a police escort from one hospital to the other. His mates are becoming more and more terrified and no longer want to watch or participate in his "trainwreck in slow motion" lifestyle

One of the strongest mindsets and will to succeed on the field, such a shame that mindset hasnt applied to his activities outside football.

It really is sad to watch

some people are just too self-centred to really care how much hurt they bring others.

cousins is 99.99 percent twat, and will die young from his selfishness, slow motion suicide, goes to rehab because other people want him to, not because he wants to, guys a prick., a dead man walking.

i wouldnt call him a twat

he was a pin up at 15 given everything he wanted at that age as you see with most people in those situations they only end up one way

he wont die young from his selfishness if you have known anyone who has an addiction it isnt selfishness its a way of life they have no control over there actions

ll very narrow minded view

drug addiction is extremely hard to break. smiddy is right. I blame the west coast eagles for his predicament. They knew he clearly had a drug problem early on and looked the other way while they were at the top of the ladder. They could have penalised him and sent him to rehab on their own accord possible before his addiction got the better of him.
