2010- The Demons are rising from Hell

Don’t want to really delve into the past including season 09 other than to say we did what we needed to do and at the same time put a lot of development into the young kids and 3 more vets retired. The re-build is nearing completion!
This thread will be used for all news I hear from now till after the NAB Cup.

Draft Camp is not that far away!
Excited to see and hear the progress there. Tom Scully is our pick 1 lock it in and im bloody excited about it! He will be a dead set gun of the future and is EXACTLY the type of midfielder we have lacked for a long time!

The second pick is the one that is up in the air at the moment.
Do we go for best available no matter the position or do we go for a highly regarded top 5 prospect that may fill a better need or do we go for a kid who has a bit of X-factor about him and may not be as polished but seems to have the ability to rip games apart within 15 minutes?
Jack Trengove

John Butcher

Anthony Morabito

Draft Camp will tell a lot but at the moment im swaying towards picking the two best kids in Scully and Trengove, two midfielders with Trengove having the ability to pinch hit in the forward line.

Other news and whispers I have been hearing-

Delistings-
*Nothing as yet but keep hearing Tom McNaMara is home sick and wants to go back to SA. Has a lot of potential and sad to hear this.

*Clint Bartram seems to be the player that will be one of the first to be cut , handy player with disposal being a big flaw.

*Brian Lake coming to the demons?

Heard it on footy classified last night from Caro. She have been told a porky but if true I find it interesting.
Obviously we will have a lot of spare money in the salary cap with so many retired players in the past 2 years but back line seems like the area of the ground we were pretty good in. Would be great for the club in the sense we get a top 10-20 guy at the club instantly and should be a shoe in for AA in the backline this year. Would be great mentor for the young kids too.

Only way I see it is Warnock would be the one that would go? Lake is two years older than Warnock.

Maybe a situation like this-
Warnock and pick 18 or 34 to Carlton for Pick 11- Why for us- To make room for Lake and get another high draft pick.
Why for Blues- Has his brother there, carlton are screaming for someone like Warnock in the backline.
Then pick up Lake on a 2 year contract in the PSD.
Could work will be interesting trade week.

Anyway I think that’s enough for right now will be updating as soon as I hear other stuff!

Exciting times at Dee-land. A Big Coup if you get lake, but what is in it for him? What are his motives?

As bad as it sounds money but he is at a point in his career where he deserves full respect in a contract. If the doggies cant provide that then hesh should be entitled to see what else he can get.
It is a business as we know and we all would love our champions of our clubs to stick around for ever but sometimes it cant be done.
Also people keep saying why would you go from a club who got 3rd to 16th, well other than the money maybe he wants a change of scenery... a new challenge, maybe sees the dogs as a team that maybe can only go as far as they have gone?

not sure mate, but yeah a lot of water to go under the bridge before its a certainty.

Brock Mclean has requested a trade to Carlton!

Im shocked but happy!

Agreed in principal - Brock for Carlton first round pick 11.

We have pick 1, 2, 11, 18 all in first round now!

With Scully, Trengove set to come on i knew something like this was coming on!

Win , Win trade i would of thought...still a tad sad to see brock go!

Col Sylvia and Aussie Wonaeamirri signed on for 2 years!!! SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Stoked with the decision!!!!

Club is on right track!

Next is Davey!!! so many rumours that he is unhappy but i fail to understand this at all! He loves the brotherhood created at our club.

Wona signing will make him want to stay even more he wont leave him and the others.

Next announcement hopefully will be-

Davey and Jurrah sign 3 year contracts.

Watch this space....lots happening around the Dees at the moment, some may not agree with the moves but i love em!
Brock great servent but pick 11 is a great get for him! Win/win trade and one that makes sense with Scully and Trengove coming in.

GO DEES

I was right Chuckle

The Lions took the bait, eventually using the No. 14 pick they received from Collingwood for ruckman Cameron Wood.

We gave em pick 14 so Mousey can now tell us who waspick 14 that year Wink

Yep was just going to add this.
Apparently was one of the most dominating games coming from an 18 year old in SA.

Sooo excited about it!

Can see the headlines of-
Three of a Kind- Jack Watts, Jack Grimes, Jack Trengove Smile

Very early but predictions-

Pick 1- Tom Scully
Pick 2- Jack Trengove
Pick 11- Temel
Pick 18- Jack Fitzpatrick

Will be keeping an eye on draft camp this week Smile

Exciting times indeed Smile

Yep thanks mate, i am very excited about everything.

Still a tad worried about the Aaron Davey business. Rumours are flowing around that Essendon have offered him 4 years at money we probably are not prepared to match.
We have offered him 3.

I hope we dont lose Davey.....

Havent Essendon a Davey (Alwyn) who are both Shaun Burgoyne's cousins? ... if they got both the Davey's they would have a good shot at getting Burgoyne?

UPDATE 2.04pm: MELBOURNE has re-signed star onballer Aaron Davey for four years.

The gun playmaker was reportedly considering leaving the Demons - possibly to join his brother Alwyn at Essendon - one week after Melbourne was rocked by revelations onballer Brock McLean wanted a trade to Carlton.

But the club announced this afternoon that he had signed a new contract with the Demons.

Davey has played 119 senior games and is one of the young team's most talented and experienced players.

This long-term contract means Davey, who turns 26 next month, will likely play his entire career at Melbourne.

"We are very pleased that Aaron has committed to Melbourne," Demons official Tim Harrington said in a statement.

"He is a player who is held in high regard and is a big part of the club's future success.

"Aside from his obvious playing talents, Aaron's leadership qualities are first class.

"His work, particularly with our young group of indigenous players, has been outstanding and has gone a long way to contributing to the success of players such as Liam Jurrah."

Bailey earlier today said there was virtually no chance of Davey leaving the Demons and was highly confident a new deal with the out-of-contract 26-year-old would soon be struck.

''I expect Aaron to be a Melbourne player for the rest of his life, he loves playing for the club and he has a long history with us,'' Bailey said from the AFL's Draft Camp in Canberra earlier today.

''I don't see Aaron going anywhere.

''I think he is very keen to establish a long career with Melbourne and be a one-club player.

''We will work with his management and I'm sure Aaron will be with us for the rest of his career."

What's with yours?

Good news for the Demons with the re-signing of Davey. Would have sent a poor msg to the playing group and supporters if a few players abandoned ship ala Brock.

Hang in the Dee's, will be a powerhouse in about 3-4 yrs I think

VERY happy with Davey resigning so important on and off field for our club!

Everything is going nicely atm!

But everyone keep Jimmy Stynes in your thoughts as he continues to battle.
Found out he has 3 tumours on the brain now...
