Australian squad: Simon Katich, Shane Watson, Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Mike Hussey, Marcus North, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, Doug Bollinger.

Rejected

What a joke. Hussey still in... if he can't make runs against 1 of the worst teams going round.. blow me.. I still can't see how and why he keeps getting chances, especially with his age, + guys like Hughs missing out.. fuk me.

I would of gone with this team:

Katich
Hughes
Ponting
Clarke
North
Watson
Haddin
Johnson
Hauritz
Siddle
Hilfenhaus/Bollinger

Hughes, Jaques or Rogers needed to make buckets of runs in the first few games to force the selectors to pick them!

Hussey is damn lucky ... a few good one day scores in India saved his bacon ... if he fails in the first 2 tests he will have to go. Watson as the allrounder at #7 or 8 gives better balance to the team.

Port Adelaide ... Matty's in charge!

Hughes isnt in form because of injury and lack of match practice Moz. Cant give him a recall on his shield scores. Not a middle order batsman either. Only an opener at the moment.

Hussey you can use as a bit of a swingman. Has opened before and could bat as low as 6

Watson
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
North
Haddin
Johnson
Hauritz/Bollinger
Siddle
Hilfenhaus

12th: Bollinger/Hauritz

Bollinger likely 12th. 3 specialist quicks and a special spinner should do the trick. North to bowl some off spin to. Watson if needed. Rather see him with bat than ball but.

Looking at that side the obvious problems are:

1. Openers - do either of them open for their state? I don't think so. Both are stop gaps that have made good. Hope it works, but if it doesn't what do u do with them? Katich and Watson to the middle order? Maybe if Hussey fails.

2. Hussey - tough as old boots, dedicated, super fit. I reckon he will shine this summer. If he doesnt then maybe Watson down the order and Hughes back in at the top.

3. Haddin - good bat. Keeping will need to improve. Like him so far.

4. Johnson - surely he will have sorted out his personal life and should be ready to have a blinder.

5. Hauritz and the other spinners. Horry is dodgy, Katich seems reluctant, Clarke is injury prone and North is unproven. At state level it's a lottery. But against the Windies in particular a good spinner is invaluable, and if he aint much good the Pakistanis will flog him.

Watson is not a test opener (despite doing well in England). The batting line up needs a rethink IMO.

Stuart Clark unlucky not to get in the squad, IMO.

We wil flog the Windies, but not because we will have a full strength squad, just because they are about equal to the Parabadoo thirds.

couldnt give a flying f about this series. will be boring and players will be simply going through the motions. test cricket spark the day 20/20 was invented. love tests when players treated it as the holy grail but when players like tait and several others walk away from it to play 20/20 was when i lost interest.

oh and the last indian tour of australia killed it for me also. not even the ashes series could reignite my passion.

Watson the best opener (and all-rounder) in the country at the moment. Huss's ODI form in India saved him I guess. And Hughes still not ready despite his heroics in South Africa. Rogers scoring big and shld be considered ahead of Hughes or Jaques - but poor guy plays for Vics n not NSW. Rejected
Windies will be competitive though - specially bowling attack. Pretty exciting to say the least. Problem is their batting and even serious problem is their fielding. Thumbs up

Watson is not a test opener. His technique is flawed, he will be out LBW numerous times this summer, if he continues to open.

I agree he is the in form all rounder and deserves his place in the team. Thumbs up

Gone are the days when openers were needed to be technically ALL solid. Watson makes use of new ball to score at a good rate while Katich can hang around. Many successful teams following the suit.

Hughes has a perfect technique? Or Jaques for tht matter?

Lol Para are crap - only ones you wouldn't want three of them. They are so poo they can get another poo side out for 49 runs and still lose.

By the wayside I am leaving Paraburdoo and all its heat at years end. Got a gig teaching at a nice spot called Kalbarri - right on the coast. From red dirt to ocean.

Going to be a crap series I think, not looking forward to it at all. Might flick to the ABC and watch lawn bowls.

It seems he is insinuating that Australia cheat because umpires make dud decisions. Rather we wear the bad decisions and move on others bleat and bleat and bleat.

Ganesh, Watson is not a Test opener. As I correctly stated, he will be out LBW too often to make a really successful go at the opening spot.

I would rather Hodge open than Watson, if they are going to go with a makeshift opener.

Fully back Saintly on this ... Watson technique as an opener is so flawed it makes a mockery of the ozzie selectors choices.

Even though he did a patch up job in England he never ever looked comfortable. The difference between Katich and Watsons technique is miles apart.

Moving forward OZ needs Watson at 6 or 7 not opening.

WATSON is not an opener, what are these dumb ass slectors thinking. Fuming

HUSSEY should of been shown the door long time ago, so he could focus on OD and 20/20. Young blood is needed.

KATICH, keep saying it, makes starts or small 100's... why. why kato.

Aussie 1st test MoM, Hilfy is out of the 2nd test with a knee injury and Clint McKay is into the 12. I would say Dougie Bollinger will play and it wont matter anyway that Hilfy is out.
