I agree Smiddy that the odds are attractive and I would be more than happy if I got 3`s or better the place with him as I see him as a genuine place chance in what does not look to be an overly strong Cup field.Sixth in the Race last year he went on 3 weeks later to take out the Geelong Cup and although the bulk of his wins have come over the short course he is capable of running a race.

Good to see them get back to the Valley ,Tabcorp Park hasn`t really grabbed me yet.Guess it`s going to have to as it`s Bye Bye Valley.Sundons Gift`s for the taking but as Skyvalley showed last week there really is no such thing as a good thing. He may even bounce back and take this out after all he would be the omen tip (Valley).Acacia Ridge ,Don King and the impressive Cillas Earl could upstage the pair.

Great to see some Traditions in racing are still upheld and this race has kept it`s glamour being a stand start over a decent distance giving all a chance, handicaps could have been a shade better though with only 3 out the back, one of a very few of such races left and with the closure of the Valley not sure what it`s future holds?.True staying test and late last year both Bettors Strike and Smoken Up went crackers in the NZ Cup so thats good enough for me.Mr Feelgood and Washakie the dangers and for Value Bondy of the front and Pembroke Benny of the second row.

final Inter-Dominion rankings

After the final rankings, seven New Zealand-trained horses are inside the top 40 for an Inter-Dominion Championship start.

The top ranked Kiwi and the defending champ, Mr Feelgood, heads the list. Three-time winner Blacks A Fake is below him at two, with Kiwi high flyer Monkey King at number three. The other Kiwis, in descending order are: Bondy (5), Changeover (9), Pembrook Benny (10), Bailey’s Dream (12) and Awesome Armbro (23).

The other New Zealand nominee, St Barts, was ranked 44 in the final list. He will need several defections to make the top 40.

The Inter-Dominion commences at Harold Park on Friday 19 February, moves to Newcastle on Saturday 27 February then concludes at Menangle on Sunday 7 March.

Field Selections and Barrier draws for the four first round Heats at Harold Park will be released at noon next Monday 15th February by HRNSW

The first round of Qualifying Heats will be mobile barrier starts with ten horses to compete, seven starting from the front row and three from the second row. The three common reserve horses will be excluded from the barrier draw however if they gain a start they will commence from the barrier position drawn by the withdrawn horse. The inclusion of the common reserve horses will be in order and at the time of each respective scratching. The ten highest point scorers after the completion of the Qualifying Rounds will qualify for the Final. The next two highest point scorers will qualify as reserve horses in point order for the Final.

POINTSCORE

Points shall be awarded to each horse actually starting and finishing a Qualifying Heat as set out below:

1st 14
2nd 12
3rd 10
4th 8
5th 6
6th 5
7th 4
8th 3
9th 2
10th 1

In the event of a dead-heat, all points of the horses dead-heating shall be added together and equally divided. Horses which fail to finish are allocated zero points.

In addition the winner of the 2009 Watpac Inter Dominion Mr Feelgood, the Barastoc 2009 Grand Circuit Champions Mr Feelgood and Blacks A Fake and the winners of all established Grand Circuit events conducted between Wednesday 1st April 2009 and Monday 8th February 2010 will be allocated an additional one (1) point for each respective win. In the case of the tied 2009 Grand Circuit Champions they will each receive ½ point. If there is a dead-heat in a Grand Circuit event the one (1) point will be halved between the dead-heating horses as was the case for the 2009 Barastoc Grand Circuit Champions.

Points gained from Watpac ID09, dual Grand Circuit Champions and Grand Circuit events will be included in the points score after the first round of Qualifying Heats.

Finishing positions in the First Round of Qualifying Heats will be utilized, in the first instance, for the field selection for the Second Round of Qualifying Heats (Heats 5, 6, 7 & 8) as follows:

Heat 5 Heat 6 Heat 7 Heat 8

Winner Heat 1 Winner Heat 2 Winner Heat 3 Winner Heat 4

Second Heat 4 Second Heat 3 Second Heat 2 Second Heat 1

Third Heat 2 Third Heat 4 Third Heat 1 Third Heat 3

Fourth Heat 3 Fourth Heat 1 Fourth Heat 4 Fourth Heat 2

For the horses placed first to fourth in the First Round of Qualifying Heats in the event that owner and trainer multiples are created these shall be split only by altering the lowest finishing multiple horse with another horse which finished in the next lower position in the same First Round Qualifying Heat. This may include horses which finished fifth and lower in the First Round of Qualifying Heats to the point where the multiple is cleared.

Should this process not remedy the multiple the HRNSW Handicapping Panel, at their discretion, will exchange horses which finished in the same position in the First Round Qualifying Heats between designated Second Round Qualifying Heats providing this process does not create another multiple.

The composition of the remainder of the Second Round Qualifying Heats will be at the discretion of the HRNSW Handicapping Panel in the first instance so as not to create owner and trainer multiples however to also create competitive racing and equal opportunities for all horses.

If there is a dead-heat in a First Round Qualifying Heat the positioning of the dead-heating horses for the purpose of placement in the Second Round Qualifying Heats will be at the discretion of the HRNSW Handicapping Panel so as in the first instance to not create an owner or trainer multiple and secondly to create competitive racing.

For all Qualifying Heats of the Championship, should there be an unforeseen occurrence with splitting multiples, it will be at the absolute discretion of the HRNSW Handicapping Panel to place horses to create competitive racing.

For the purpose of separating horses due to ownership this will only be in the case of identical registered owners
