Team Seb
B G. Broughton T. Pears W. Schofield HB L. Hodge L. McPharlin C. Enright C S. Thompson(ade)L. Ball J. Corey HF P. Chapman M. Pavlich M. Rischitelli F N. Naitanui J. Riewoldt T. Varcoe R Mumford C. Judd L. Picken Int H. Hocking S. Hill Wojcinski Sub L. Shiels
Pretty happy with this team. Full back line maybe a little shaky but I trust Pears to get the job done. Btw my centreline should read Corey - S. Thompson - Ball.
Only change i'd maybe make is to fit in an extra tall forward (not Naitanui). Picken or Hocking to make way

Thought we were picking a team to win the flag right now, in that case I reckon MY team is setup to do it with experience and discipline. Smidd's is def has the most talented individuals, but that don't make it the best TEAM. I think warpants should write up a review of each team, I might do my own too when I get the chance. All the teams are cream of the crop, but think the other 3 were picked based on heart rather than brains.

I thought my team balanced out pretty well with a lot of in-form players...enough talls and a very mobile defensive six...good blend of talented youth with Martin, Rockliff and Dahlhaus, experience with Dal Santo, Shaw and O'Keefe, and LeCras, Harvey, Kennedy and the JPod banging in the goals. I liked the idea of pushing Deledio closer to the action as well... only Warnock and King were disappointing...I would replace them with Cam Wood and Dayne Beams...(talking from the heart) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Hot Pies and Mustard

There are 10 better players in the afl than daisy, maybe in another year or 2 when he strings together seasons can he be considered top 10.

Team Smitty
B J. Frawley M. Scarlett C. Yarran HB S. Fisher C. Tarrant B. Goddard C L. Hayes S. Mitchell M. Boyd HF S. Selwood B. Franklin T. Cotchin F A. Goodes C. Dawes A. Schneider R T. Goldstein S. Black G. Ablett Int K. Jack B. Waters L. Shuey Sub M. Leuenberger
Backline – 9 – Great rebounders and can also shut up shop with Tarrant, Scarlett, Frawley and Waters. Midfield – 8 – Pure class, but Goldy and Luey are rucking to a slow engine of inside players. Forward – 8 - Great balance, but if Franklin or Goodes went down it would probably struggle with the other teams backlines. X-Factor – 10 - A team with Buddy, Goodes and Ablett three of the most dynamic stars of our era. Just missing Judd. With Judd i would of gave an 11.
Team Jvalles
B A. Carlile D. Glass C. Newman HB H. Scotland A. Silvagni B. Gibbs C D. Mundy J. Redden K M. Murphy HF N. Fyfe N. Riewoldt D. Thomas F S. Johnson J. Brown J. Waite R A. Sandilands J. Watson J. Selwood Int K. Tippett M. Hurley B. Green Sub K. Cornes
Backline – 8 – Good combination of height and with Hurley on the bench as the swingman they can cover most forwardlines. A solid no-frills backline with classy passers. Midfield – 9 – Another great combination of players – if Sandilands was 100% and rucking to Jobe and J Selwood who could go out to Mundy and Murphy it would work superbly. Forward – 8.5 – Pretty top heavy with Riewoldt, Waite and John Brown, but with Daisy and Stevie J at their feet they’ll always be in the contest. Will stretch backlines. X-Factor – 7 - A forward line with Fyfe and Stevie J will be hard to match up on, but these players can go through slow patches.
Team Juno
B R. Murphy T. Richards J. Adcock HB N. Bock H. Taylor H. Shaw C D. Martin N. Dal Santo T. Rockcliff HF M. LeCras J. Podsiadly B. Delidio F B. Harvey J. Kennedy R. O'Keefe R D. Cox D. Swan L. Montagna Int L. Dahlhaus R. Warnock S. Wellingham Sub J. King
Backline – 7 – A solid back 6, will defend well, but it would struggle with any forward line here. Only Heater will hurt on the rebound. Midfield – 8.5 – I like this midfield and if Joey was playing with last years form I would of put it up to 9. Big Coxy getting to ruck to the always running Swanny and NDS with Joey and Martin who are beaut kicks. Poetry. Forward – 8.5 – If O’Keefe was playing more games like the one against the saints I would mark it up higher. A strong contested marking line with LeCras and Harvey as the small men. Would work well. A champion forward line, rather than a forward line of champs. X-Factor – 6 – Hurt by a weak bench, Dustin Martin is a big X-Factor in this team. If he is firing he could go forward and get a bag, and if he is fed by the accumulators he doesn’t get to play with at the tiggies he could cause major troubles.
Team Seb
B G. Broughton T. Pears W. Schofield HB L. Hodge L. McPharlin C. Enright C J. Corey S. Thompson(ade)L. Ball HF P. Chapman M. Pavlich M. Rischitelli F N. Naitanui J. Riewoldt T. Varcoe R Mumford C. Judd L. Picken Int H. Hocking S. Hill Wojcinski Sub L. Shiels
Backline – 8.5 – A great combo of stoppers and attacking defenders, and with Wojo on the bench who can inject kamikaze-style pace and push Hodge up the ground this could Midfield – 9 – A perfect midfield. Two rucking midfielders in Nic Nat or Mumford, depending on what style is needed, Rucking to Thompson, Juddy and Ball, with Joel Corey and Stephen Hill on the outside. And the bullish Hocking and Picken. Very Versatile can go classy or just smash through. Forward –7.5 – A bad year for pav hurts the team and with Jack and T Riewoldt they can disappear for halves at a time. Old Teac and Chapman are probably the most consistent X-Factor – 9 – Judd and Nic Nat are pure, undiluted x-factor. They are the cocaine of the 70s.
Team Nivek
B J. Hunt D. Merrett G. Johncock HB G. Birchall B. Reid H. O'Brien C D. Heppell A. Swallow J. Bartel HF C. Rioli J. Roughead D. Menzel F T. Cloke A. Walker S. Milne R D. Jolly S. Pendlebury D. Kerr Int C. Ling R. Griffen R. Gray Sub A. Didak
Backline – 8 – A few good men. Reid and Merrett are top class defenders, this defence will have to rely on structure as they would be beaten 1 on 1, luckily all bar johncock (great name!!) play in a very structured team so it would work. Midfield – 8 - Probably a little weak in the rucking division, actually it is definitely a little weak in that area. But with a long bench of good midfielders they could run their guts out and tag in equally effective middies. Saved by long bench. Forward – 8 - This line will kick a LOT of goals. Probably get the most shots on goal, but could struggle with accuracy on a bad day. X-Factor – 8 – All eights!!! Rioli, Milne and Menzel could blitz teams on their day. They could be unstoppable.. or they might as well not show up. This group is a gamble.

Had a crack at trying to figure a way of rating them and it was too hard, all the teams would do pretty damn well. Maybe when I have some time I will rate it as a DT side with each players average DT points and what their total weekly score would be from the latest season that they played more than 15 games, otherwise injury stricken players will bring the average down. Maybe someone could use SC to rate the teams and another could use individual honours (ie AA, club champ etc), total individual brownlow votes. Lots of fun ways, but time consuming ways of measuring their output.

DT rating. Rule was they had to play over 10 games this season and I went back till I got to a year where they did play over 10 games. Used only the players on the field, no I/C or sub as their scores would not count in a true DT. No point in making a double point captain either. Final scores are down the bottome! Team Smitty B J. Good stuff. It's alot of work. I was thinking about putting all players into a category e.g. Inside Mid, Tall Defender and then picking three key stats each - e.g.
Inside Mid - average contested possies + average handballs + ave tackles {multiply by effective disposals (70% = 0.70)}
The bit in the bracket should scale the player down to match a small def using the stats below.
Small Def - ave r50 + ave kicks + ave clearances
Any thoughts or suggestions?
How about you guys think of 4 average stats needed for the following afl stereotypes
Stat types (all averages)
Kicks Handball Contested Uncontested Marks C Marks Marks in50 Hitouts inside 50s rebound 50s frees for tackles goals behinds goal assists 1%ers Bounces
Player types
Tall Def Small Def Ruck In Mid Out Mid Small Forward Tall Forward
This project may take a while, but it should be worthwhile.
