Aldo vs. Mendes - Match Odds

There's been a lot of talk this week about how Aldo has become a "boring" fighter since becoming the champion, that he "play it safe" and is overrated. This type of thinking has been perpetuated by stupid MMA fans. Aldo is one of the most fierce strikers in the sport and has spectacular KO power. His last two decision wins were extremely tough contests. First he beat a very game Hominick into a Mongoloid en route to a unanimous decision. Then he fought Florian who came in with an excellent stifling game-plan and managed to make the adjustments to get the W.

I think Aldo is reasonable value in the $1.40's against Mendes. I really think Mendes has been pushed into this fight too quickly in a weak division. He has beaten a lot of no-namers and only has two UFC fights to his name. I guess they just like his marketabilty factor, young, undefeated etc. Aldo will win this fight in spectacular fashion and hopefully he'll stop pissing around in the featherweight division and step up.

Belfort vs. Johnson - Match Odds

I have no idea who is going to win this one. Belfort is 100 years old but his post-steriod abused body still seems to have held together quite well. Rumble is built like a bear but I have never seen him do anything other than wrestlefuck people. I lean towards Vitor in this one, I really don't know why, just a gut feeling that he'll be too fast and outclass his opponent.

Palhares vs. Massenzio - Match Odds

Palhares is worth betting against any time you can get $5.00 or more. This is because he's a 1/3 chance of having a brain fart and talking to the ref in the middle of the fight or doing something queer. The value is there!!

Barboza vs. Etim - Match Odds

Barboza is somehow 3-0 in the UFC when he should be 1-2. He is easily one of the most overrated fighters in the sport and for some reason the UFC are trying to build him up to be something special. I would say the value must be there with his opponent but I know nothing about him. Hammer?

Ok... my thoughts here...

Mendes, though he hasn't fought anyone notable really is a dangerous motherfucker. Make no mistake, Aldo will have to come in at his best to beat Mendes. He has beast mode takedowns, great ground control and ground and pound. If Mendes was really a chump, there should be more value on Mendes I believe. Do I think he'll win, nope, I think Aldo will catch him early and catch him good, make him think twice about a takedown. But should Mendes manage to take the fight to the ground, it'll get scary. I rather stay away from betting on this fight to be honest and just enjoy it. However, gun to my head, I'd lean Aldo. He should be fired up fighting in his home country and to prove the doubters wrong.

Agreed on Vitor likely winning this fight. This is Johnson's first fight at middleweight after moving up from welterweight, and I think its a good move. I think he had a tough time with the weight cut to 170 and should be much more comfortable at middleweight. This is NOT a good first fight for him however as Vitor, as aged as he is, still has massive power and speed in his hands and will likely knock him out, and it may come quickly. I think if Johnson had a couple fights under his belt at that weight class he'd be better off, but first one? It will be tough. Leaning Vitor here.

Palhares is a headscratcher, much like Melvin Guillard. They are talented as hell, but make stupid mistakes to lose fights. They lose focus for a second or two and get caught. But... I rather not put any money on Massenzio, I think he gets bashed badly in this one. Though at 5... how can you not take a chance? LoL

The problem with Barboza isn't the lack of talent, its the lack of a killer instinct that other fighters have. He's satisfied with just winning and not losing unfortunately when he should be trying to finish opponents with his superior striking. He has all the athletic tools to fuck people up, but never uses them. When the fight is in hand, he bobs and weaves to a boring decision. Etim is a fair striker, has a decent chin, but he's more of a submission specialist than KO artist. The problem is that Barboza has excellent jits too, so that's negated. I do not like this match up at all because of Barboza's lack of a killer instinct. He'll outstrike Etim for two rounds, then run and NOT LOSE for the third round. Barboza will win, but it might be shitty. As with Aldo, one can pray that Barboza will be hyped up fighting in Brazil and may want to put on a show so this could potentially be the start of a good run for him. Maybe he gets his first taste of blood and rolls? I dunno, but Barboza wins this.

WOW! WTF is up with Rumble Johnson? Fucker weighed in at 197 for a middleweight fight? I think he should be suspended for this, 12 pounds overweight is fucking RIDICULOUS!

That's insane Hammer. He tried to say that he was 'forced' to drink fluids by a doctor haha. The guy was bragging only a couple of days ago that he was walking around at 220, so he doesn't get any sympathy from me. I think he should spend more time training to be a better fighter than trying to find was to gain a big advantage through weight on fight day. Seems a bit cowardly/pissantish to me. Fuck Rumble anyway.

Smiddy the card isn't the best going around but I'm super excited to see Aldo - one of my favourite fighters - throw down! Any fight involving Palhares is also worth watching, that f*cker could do something queer at any point.

Wow! One of the most awesome UFCs I've ever seen.

Hammer - the Rumble fight panned out how we thought. He was outmatched in this one!

Aldo - that was spectacular, just as I expected. Mendes had no business being in the octagon with him. All the haters can eat a d1ck!

Palhares just busted that dude's knee that was brutal.

And Rogan, what a fuckin' loser callin out the ref like that. It was a tough call, a good 3-4 of those strikes were to the back of his head, I think it was fair enough. Rogan should be roasted for that behaviour.

What the hell was Aldo thinking running in to the crowd like that, seriously stupid, he could have caused a riot/injuries.

Overall, that was very cool!

DEFINITELY one of the best I've seen as well. Barboza's KO of Etim was fucking SICK! So SICK! Etim was out cold, fell like a sack of bricks. Barboza was hyped up fighting in Brazil. I hope this carries over to his next fights as this fucker can be Aldo good if he goes for the win hard.

Anthony Johnson has been released by the UFC according to Dana White. White said, "It's three strikes and you're out" referring to Rumble's three failures to make weight. I'm so fucking glad Vitor choked him out, he deserved it.

Palhares, ffs, how can you ever give that guy your leg? rolling His heel hook is so fucking devastating and it happens so quick. Don't want to mess with Palhares' pythons that's for sure.

Aldo, what can you say, he's back. Fighting in Brazil hyped him up as well and he was up for the challenge of giving the crowd a show. That knee was fucking brutal.

A great night for the Brazilians for sure, outside of what CD alluded to with the Rogan bullshit on that Silva/Prater fight. It was a VERY tough call to make and Mario decided to stop it.

Hammer Palhares is an animal. What makes him more scary is that he's stupid, so he won't let go until your knee is jacked, even if you're begging the guy... Very Happy

Seriously, look at this gif... I can understand the ref making the DQ call... it's the forearm that's doing the damage... I hope other fighters take notice and stay away from the back of the head.
