The
121SPORTS FIFA World Cup 2006 Tipping Competition runs from the 9th-23rd June, 2006 (i.e., the "group" stage).
Each entrant in the competition is given a “virtual” bank of 1000 units. Entrants must bet on at least two matches per day (you are limited to a maximum of 4 bets per day in total).
The odds for each match will be provided by 121SPORTS based on those provided by a reputable bookmaker. You must wait for the odds to be posted by 121SPORTS on
www.121s.com each day before making your selections.
Selections must be made prior to the start of the first match of each day. For those of you who are unfamiliar with sports betting, please click
here for further information.
Selections must have some rationale in order to be considered valid. In other words, you need to provide some reasons for your prediction. Please click
here for guidelines as to what will be considered acceptable rationales.
You also need to indicate how many units you are placing on the selection, e.g., Germany to beat Croatia (250 units). Any bets that do not include the number of units will be considered as 50 unit bets by default. You can bet as little (minimum bet 1 unit) or as much as you like each day, as long as you make at least 2 predictions and provide a rationale for each.
Winners will be determined by the highest banks at the end of the tournament. The $2500 will be divided between the top 10 finishers ($1000 1st, $500 2nd, $300 3rd, $200, 4th, $150 5th, $100 6th, $100 7th, $50 8th, $50 9th, $50 10th). Payment will be made by Paypal or cheque.
Each day the leader board will be updated, so there is no need to calculate your bank.
Other considerations: To keep it manageable, this competition is limited to the first 500 members that post valid predictions.
If an entrant fails to produce at least 2 tips for a given day, he or she will incur a 100 unit penalty. Invalid tips (i.e. without an adequate rationale) are not considered in scoring and may also incur a penalty at the discretion of the competition managers.
If more than 4 bets are placed on a given day, only the first 4 will be considered in scoring and there will be no further penalty.
Late entrants are allowed until the start of play on the 15th of June but entrants will have a starting bank of 650 units.
Tips that have been edited (as indicated by the time-stamped watermark) after the day starts will be considered invalid.
Entrants who attempt to sign up using multiple accounts will be immediately banned. If there is more than one person who would like to be included in the competition from your household, please email the moderator at
moderator@121s.com to ask for an exception.
121SPORTS reserves the right to modify the rules until the commencement of the competition.
